Need a much longer viewing of him before throwing a long term contract at him. People need to chill.

You have to watch him against teams with speed like the Avs and Oilers or heavy teams like FL and Washington to give an honest assessment.

This is like going house shopping and buying the first house you see.

I agree to the extent that altering what the team was going to offer based on a small number of games with the Canucks would be silly, based on a small sample size. Years ago there were fans excited about future star Ronalds Kenins based on his 2 goals, 8 hits and + 2 in his first three games as a Canuck.

On the other hand, he's been in the league for seven years and having traded what they did for him presumably he's seen as a known quantity. They placed a big down payment on that house you speak of when they traded for him. Signing him now based on his age and past performance is like signing a 7 year veteran as a free agent in the summer.

Of course, as Canucks fans we've had amply pointed out to us that teams make mistakes in the summer. On the other hand, if the Canucks want him it is best to show it now before he feels disrespected and set on going to free agency in a few months.

Given his MPG, impact and age and the salary cap going up it's a steal of a contract in terms of value.
