i mentioned this last year, i think maybe the forst time we saw soucy wear the black skate jersey but he is just too damn tall to wear #7. that’s a tiny center number. andre boudrias, pit martin, gary lupul, barry pederson, dan quinn, ronning, morrison. never felt right on booth either, but when we got linden vey all was right with the world.

Vey is surprisingly listed at 6'0". He seemed smaller, at least the way I remember him. I would've guessed that he was no taller than 5'10". Maybe he was just one of those guys who played small.

If Benning actually chose Sbisa instead of Theodore, then he should never work in the NHL again. But I'm not convinced, looking back, that Theodore was ever a possibility.

Let's not push some revisionist history here. I'm not certain that Theodore was available but he was a late first round pick coming off an encouraging draft+1 year. The question was whether his game would translate. At the time he was still Petey-thin.

Said this before, the Kesler trade was kind of doomed. The best deal would have been the Ducks' offer at the deadline which 100% did include the would be 10th overall pick but we weren't interested in pure futures and the Ducks were unwilling to trade away a roster player. Gillis' preferred deal with the Penguins were Sutter, 1st round pick, and Pouliot. Instead, Gillis was offered a choice of Dumoulin, Despres, and (I believe) Harrington.

I believe it was never confirmed that Theodore was specifically an option in the deal we took, just that Benning had a choice of dmen and intentionally chose Sbisa, Personally I'd speculate that Sbisa should have been available, but it may have required another deal. Like Anaheim was stacked on defense, while up front Bonino was their 3rd best forward (a huge gap after Getzlaf/Perry) and on a great cost controlled 2 year contract. They could give up Bonino to upgrade to Kesler but in terms of value to the team I'd be certain Bonino was more valuable than Theodore for Anaheim at the time.

I think the primary reason Benning passed on Theodore was that he was just 19. The sell job from JB and what Aqua wanted was to compete with the Twins. Theodore was 2 seasons away (1 more WHL and 1 in the AHL) before landed with the Ducks team.

Zadorov has played the same as he always has. There is a big library of games that shows Zadorov is a volatile player in terms of performance. He has stretches of fantastic play but also stretches where you wonder how the heck he made the NHL. In Vancouver he hit the former stretch.

Need a much longer viewing of him before throwing a long term contract at him. People need to chill.

You have to watch him against teams with speed like the Avs and Oilers or heavy teams like FL and Washington to give an honest assessment.

This is like going house shopping and buying the first house you see.

Agree. You have to see him for the next 15-20 games before you can form an opinion.

Yep and it's possible that the Canucks' scouting staff didn't like Theodore at the time. Certainly he wasn't a rumoured target of Gillis when we were trying to trade Kesler at the deadline.

Gillis team passed on Theodore to draft Shinkaruk as well in 2013.
But, I do think they wanted an NHL Dman (Benning did).

I don't recall what Gillis would have been shopping Kesler to Ana for at the 2014 TDL. I know about what he wanted from Pitt and that was Pouliot. Strange that in the end, Van did get the Pitt package, just not directly.

That's why I said the Kesler trade was doomed from the start. Literally if Gillis got his way we would have ended up with Sutter, Pouliot, and Penguins' 1st which ended up being two spots ahead of where we picked but likely inconsequential.

There was also Chicago at the draft. I believe we wanted Saad while Chicago reportedly offered Teravainen and Shaw (i.e. no 1st). Either way, not a home run trade either.

We basically needed to have Pastrnak or have McCann develop a whole lot quicker and kept him in order for the Kesler deal to work out.

If memory serves Fowler and Lindholm were indeed off limits and we had a choice of Vatanen, Theodore, and Sbisa ... and chose the guy with legitimate negative trade value.

As someone who hasn't watched any Bruins game this year, is Z actually playing poorly? Quick glance at stats shows he's putting up similar numbers that he did with us. He has 3rd most ice time amongst all skaters, and has the best +/- by a significant margin on a team that is heavily in the minuses. I know, I know....useless stat. All I'm saying is that from the outside looking in with just the use of his statline, he looks like a steadying force in the lineup.
