Ate 26 minutes of icetime like it was nothing and barely put a foot wrong. Sign him ASAP.
It was a weird game to understand how he’ll basically be utilized. No Quinn. Like no penalties. Well, one. He did PK the Forbort penalty. How much will he PK? Has to be better at it than Soucy. Probably no PP minutes…. Quinn eats them up. Who will be second unit D? He’ll never play with Quinn. He’s left handed. Not like at Pittsburgh and getting to play with Karlsonn

Yea it's actually the other way around. Karlsson's performance dipped drastically away from Pettersson. Was always a real stabilizing presence for Karlsson, Letang, etc. Whoever he was put with ended up as our best pairing. I know he'll do well there.
Nice words, but we don’t have a right handed offensive minded D for him to settle down or stabilize. Just saying….

Good player. I'd sign him for five or six years. He can have a full NTC or even full NMC for the first two seasons (but expiring prior to the 2027 draft). At that point, they should have a good idea of what they have in E Pettersson and if they think that he can handle second-pair duties then Marcus can be moved.

Can we really not get him to take #3? It's available -- which is unusual to begin with -- and a prized single-digit number for defensemen. Anyone wearing Gino's number always seems a bit off.

It's super weird that 2, 3, 4, and 5 are all available and have been available since the start of the 23-24 season and none of the new defender acquisitions over the last two years have taken any of them. Poolman I guess was technically #5 until being dumped in the Brannstrom deal.

The last player to wear #4 was Madison Bowey back in 2021, which is crazy.

The Current D, for their careers, Hronek has been #17 in Det, Hughes brothers like 43, Soucy has been 7, Pettersson has been 28 in both Ana/Pitt and that wasn't available here for Bourdon, Forbert has worn 27 before, Juhlsson has worn 47 before.

Wallinder wears 5 in BU, so that's available for him once he signs. D. Petey has taken 25.

Sometimes like in the old days we get a rush on single digits like with Ohlund/Hamhuis, Bieksa/Sopel, Ballard, Salo, etc. Right now, not so much. Seeing more skaters take something above 29.

Could very well be a D core of 43, 29, 25 on left with 17, 5, and whatever Mancini takes in the near future as the starting 6. He wore 23 in Hartford. No clue what he wore with NYR. 20, 26 are open and I guess 23 since Lekky isn’t a regular.

Didn't realize he played almost 26 minutes yesterday. If him and Hughes can chew up 50 minutes of LD together leaving just 10 for Forbot, Soucy, or whomever, that's a massive win.
Since Hughes didn't play, there were more minutes available. Last pairing you typically expect to get in the low to mid teens depending on the player. There is probably 45-47 minutes between the top 2 guys to play, leaving 13-15 minutes for the last pairing. Right side, since only Hughes plays PP1 for Dmen, only need to allocate like 42-44 minutes (about 3 minutes less) for the top 2. Can go more if they want.

Somebody came up with the nickname of MP3 for Marcus Pettersson.......but Tocchet didn't seem very impressed in his post-game scrum.

Played a very Tanev-esque game, was rarely if ever, on the wrong side of the puck.

We failed to pay Tanev and spent years with regrets. Pay MP what he wants.
Was thinking of the exact same comp, very much reminds me of Tanev. Similar kind of calmness and quality to his game.

Edit: that'll teach me not to read the thread before posting, given that comp has been posted like 6 times in this thread already. -_-

More the merrier! It’s very exciting to have a legitimate d core

I remember anyone who knew anything around here wanted Theodore
I think what really stuck in craw of Canucks fans is that the Ducks said a big 'no' to the Canucks on Theodore, and then ended up losing him in the expansion draft to Vegas anyway.

&^%$*....Benning.

Theodore might've been on the table. They gave the Canucks a choice of defensemen, and I just remember being pissed that they picked Sbisa over Vatanen, but I can't remember what the other options were.

Thing that impressed me the most vs DET was 3Petey's poise and patience with the puck is own zone. Everyone knew MP was solid defensively, but there was some doubt on how he'd be with the puck on his stick.

I mean it's only 1 game, so still need to see it happen game in, game out, but he looked to make plays with the puck rather than just getting it out of the zone. I'm not saying he never went glass and out, but i don't think he ever went glass and out as his first option. Really excited to see what this group looks like with Huggy Bear back in.

Hughes-Myers
Pettersson-Willander
D-Petey- Hronek

i mentioned this last year, i think maybe the forst time we saw soucy wear the black skate jersey but he is just too damn tall to wear #7. that’s a tiny center number. andre boudrias, pit martin, gary lupul, barry pederson, dan quinn, ronning, morrison. never felt right on booth either, but when we got linden vey all was right with the world.

but below 7 and after 1, yeah those are all big dumb dman numbers. kevan guy, doug lidster, gerald diduck, garth butcher/dana murzyn, adrian plavsic.

i don’t know who was or was not on the table but at the time they had fowler, lindholm, vatanen, manson, theodore, and sbisa.

at the very least, theodore and manson must have been available. no team trading for a star can say, i have six young dmen (in addition to returning vets like beauchemin and ben lovejoy) but five are untouchable. but age gap.

i just find it hilarious that they traded us a young dman and first rounder for a selke wiinner, and a day later their system was fowler, lindholm, vatanen, manson, theodore, montour, and mp3. seven legit guys while we ended up with sbisa and gudbranson.
