I think we have to be realistic and say that the Pens are one of the weaker teams in the league. They've conceded the most goals, and I'm not sure they'll improve much in the long run.
I think Pettersson is one of the best defensemen available, and he'd be a great addition to any team! There's been a lot of talk about a trade with Vancouver, and I think Pettersson for Pettersson would be a great basis. If there's a bidding war, then I could see a first-round pick in addition. Otherwise I think Pettersson and a second-round pick is realistic.

He's been lights out the last few years. Super reliable guy who eats top-pairing mins, PKs, plays very responsible defense. He has earned a big contract when he goes UFA end of this year.
His value should be a 1st round pick at the deadline but it's Kyle Dubas (who couldn't even get a 1st for Jake Guentzel) so I expect the return to be something like a 2036 3rd round pick and a failing prospect.

The fact the Penguins have the aging guys they do, locked in to contract extensions...kind of makes me think the mandate in a Pettersson trade could end up being to get either some "closer futures" or even just a "futures + right now player" to backfill the lineup. Whether that's the right call or not...who knows. But looking at Free Agency and other options potentially on the market, if they just deal Pettersson away for a draft pick or prospect that's probably 3 years away from making an impact...what are they even doing?

Alright I know you are being sarcastic but I am legitimately curious would that be allowed if Dubas did swap him for a 2036 1st and 2nd, so 2 picks 11 years from now.
Would that be allowed? You would obviously never do it because that would be ridiculous on both sides you don't know how good or bad your ream will be in 2036.
But would it be allowed? Is there a limit to how far into the future you can trade?
As far as I know there isn't, I think technically It's allowed.
Detroit trades Erik Gustafsson for Marcus Pettersson, maybe someone at HF wants this or Detroit cannot?

Pikachu: I can't believe Kyle Dubas got NHL-ready or close to NHL-ready prospects in the Jake Guentzel trade. It's clearly because he was unable to get a 1st Round draft pick in the Jake Guentzel trade, and totally not because he had no intention of trying to acquire a 1st Round draft pick.

Honestly this post confuses me, but regardless, whether Dubas was unable to or simply didn't want to, he fumbled the Jake Guentzel trade.
I'm all ears if you have thoughts on Koivunen's ceiling being anything beyond a bottom sixer at the NHL level.
I'm not sure how it would fit cap wise, might have to add a minor cap hit to make the salaries even.
There is also the considerations that Pettersson joining the new team might have a log jam in his position as well.
Value is probably a late 1st (well, ofc since its probably a contender geting him), or a 2nd+prospect.
Maybe Dubas tries to push for a younger roster player that has yet to reach full potential.

If I'm Edmonton, I am all over thw possibility of a Marcus Petersson trade. The cap probably doesn't work until later in the year, but the Oilers should be a suitor for this player.

Oilers have zero young NHLers of value they can afford to part with, which is Dubas' main ask.
They also have no 1st.

He’d bring back either a 1st or a 2nd and a good prospect, and I imagine Dubas would want some sort of warm body NHL replacement defenseman back as well.
Maybe he can bring back a bit more if the other top-4 D options aren’t moved, since there really aren’t many available right now and some of them may not even be moved, but I think that target is pretty reasonable.

Canucks love to add him but the question is what is the ask. I take a second and a high end prospect.

I think Nashville should really try for Pettersson. With a plan to extending him, since of course the Preds aren't looking at him as a rental for a playoff run. The team has the TB/VGK 1sts to put in play. 1st TB/VGK + Tomasino?

Pettersson to Vancouver makes all sorts of sense, I’d be surprised if he wasn’t currently Allvin’s main target.

Not gonna cut it unless you include a better prospect.
It's either a 1st or a 2nd and a good prospect, not a 2nd and a 7th rounder that isn't even ranked in the Canucks top-10 prospects. If it's a 2nd rounder for Pettersson, it has to include a top-5 prospect within your system comparable to guys like Koivunen and Ponomarev.

Tampa may be interested to give them more stability down the left side on all three pairings. '25 2nd(higher of the two they have), Lilleberg and a prospect not named Howard as the base for Pettersson @50%.
Koivunen, Ponomarev, Brunicke and Bunting for 20 games of Jake seems good to me?
But acquiring EK65 and then trading your elite winger doesn’t make sense. Either keep/acquire both or neither.
