Proposal: Marcus Petterson to Detroit

Were likely not making the playoffs so theres no way we're trading a 1st or a top prospect for a rental

Maybe a 2nd and like a viro/tuomisto type prospect. Rather target a hague/Miller

Detroit would be farther ahead trading for a RHD and shifting AlJo back to the left side to play on Seider's pairing.

He's handling big minutes with Edvinsson on his off hand.

If Detroit is not willing to part with a 1st for fear of missing playoffs themselves, then why trade for him at all?

Pens will trade him to someone that will pay a 1st

Done

Don’t think he gets a 1st. Hope I’m wrong

I do lean towards 2nd +.

He's one of the best defensemen available. Ben Chariot got a first we have to remember that.

I think Wallinder and a 2nd for Pettersson is pretty reasonable, it's the same kind of Akey and a 2nd deal I think is good with Edmonton. That said, I'm not really sure if I have a good read on how good of a prospect Wallinder is.

He’s waiting at the airport for you.

Honestly I don't think it's that crazy of a payment because I don't think Berggren or Veleno are all that valuable right now. They seem more like throw ins.

I think in a month we will have a clearer picture of who is in the playoff hunt and who really needs to bolster their blueline. It's tough to say he's worth a first right now but the market on capable, reasonably priced top 4 dmen (especially ones that can be retained on and especially ones that will be rentals if needed) is very limited this season. If you get three teams looking to upgrade, options evaporate quickly. So a team that wants to secure him may make the jump to a late 1st.

As is, I think it's been pretty well established that the value is right at a 2nd + prospect. It's not tip top value for him nor is it letting him go for cheap. Most reasonable Pens fans would be fine with that return. We've ran the Pettersson/Mynio + 2nd and Akey + 2nd suggestions before with reasonable reviews. So something in the mold of 2nd + Wallinder would be about right.

It's also tough too because Dubas wants to prioritize younger players over picks and prospects but I don't see anything on the DRW roster that makes me think it would be a good swap. There's a gap between players who are just there like Berggren and good young studs we could use like Rasmussen. If we can talk a larger deal based on Pettersson resigning and us maybe sending something extra, I'd be willing to explore something else beyond the basic price of a rental Pettersson.

There will be a time that Yzerman will eventually trade for rentals, but it's not this year. And it's probably not next year, either.

Any add that he gives up pick for prospects for right now is going to be somebody he plans on keeping around.
