Player Discussion Marco Rossi

What’s the market on a 5 year deal? That’s what is being discussed. If Byfield got $6.25M after a 55 point season playing 16.5 minutes in his 21 year old season, why would Rossi get more than that for a 60 point season playing 18.25 minutes per night in his 23 year old season (less time left till his prime peak)?
I don’t think he would get more than that. You were saying he’s not worth 7M and I disagreed. On a long term deal he is. Byfield got 7.1% on an 88M cap. I’m guessing Rossi’s camp would be looking for similar, and we know the Wilds camp is at Lundell’s number which is 5.7%. Let’s say they meet in the middle at ~6.5%, that’s 6.2M on a 5 year deal. That sounds about right to me.

All true above, but BG also has the option to sign him to a bridge at a lesser amount and term. Rossi and his agent can squawk all they want- he has no recourse other than an offer sheet, and I think BG will match anything under the 7.02M mark... not sure about beyond.
I’m just basing off Russo saying he won’t take a bridge

Philly could very well have offered its two lowest 1sts for Rossi and Guerin (correctly) said no thanks. Thus, the Zegras trade has very little to do with Rossi's value, except to say that it's likely higher.

The Wild is good on a "Zegras" player for as long as Zuccarello is signed in Minnesota. Yes, Corey Pronman once praised Zegras to the moon but in reality he doesn't contribute much, has durability issues, and wasn't worth his salary last season. A little bit of a light return but maybe Briere is learning how to GM.

Unfortunately, I haven't watched Byfield much. Can you specify which parts of the game he gets better results at?
@DigitalBoldy I'm teeing you up to change minds here, man. Especially mine. I was being honest, I truly don't watch Byfield and do not know what makes him significantly better than Rossi.

Or maybe someone else can guide me to the light? I like his size and skating combination, but from all I can see stat watching their results are incredibly similar. Maybe it's his defensive game?

Option B.
My goal in asking the question is to see how malleable or unmalleable people would be to moving Rossi to wing separate from other factors. Like, are people so dead set that Rossi has to play center that they would prefer to take this pretty terrible return instead of playing Rossi at wing. I know your preference is to keep him at center and I appreciate the response.

Definitely not against it if there is a definitive upgrade as a result. Not against using him himself for that definitive upgrade, if that situation presented itself.

Just moving him over to take a baby step forward irks me a bit.

@DigitalBoldy I apologize if I’m missing some responses as I haven’t looked at all the Rossi discourse here over the last couple of months, but your stance is clear in that you don’t think he’s worth 7M and that you can’t win with him as a 2C. I’m partially there on the 2C thing, especially with who our 1C and 3C are, but I guess I’m confused as to what you think we should actually do. Let’s assume that Guerin has made a bridge deal unrealistic. We’re either going to have to trade him in this landscape for less than he’s worth, sign him for more than you think he’s worth, either in a bridge but more likely long term, or just let him sit out? I guess I just want to know how you’d navigate it because I see a lot of assessments on the player, many of which I agree with, but not a lot of realistic resolution.
