Player Discussion Marco Rossi

If Rossi gets OS'ed for 7M(I'm assuming that any less we match) would those around here be happy with a 2026 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? Picks from teams at the top of the standings are worth way less than picks from cellar dwellers, so it really matters who the picks are from.

I’d be happy if then we used up the extra space to land a couple key FA in an attempt to ‘win now’. Stack the middle with Ek, Duchene, Nelson. Let Yurov break in as a wing. Hopefully 2 yr contracts for the old centers.

I'm off Duchene. That's 2 playoffs in a row that he's pretty much disappeared at even strength.

I know everyone balks at old guys on a forum about hockeys future, but these final 4 teams from this years playoffs are littered with players in their mid to late 30s

Trouble is, it would be for 2026 draft picks, not 2025's. We'd be waiting one year more for help, rather than having a #2C(Rossi) right now. Earliest we can expect those guys to contribute is 2028-29, unless we get super lucky.

If Rossi scores 25 goals being treated exactly how he was this year I value him as follows

3.3 x Trenin
3.1 x Zucc
2.9 x Foligno
108.7 x Brazeau

How about that

I like our core, surround them with the right vets and the right youth on ELCs. Gotta get better down the middle to go deeper for a cup run.

That has literally nothing to do with what I was talking about.

It’s about the talent, not the draft spot. Everyone likes to ignore this part

That would be a nice sentiment if we had the talent, but we don't.

Best way to get the talent is the draft spot.

No way ek goes top 5 but the rest for sure.

Faber isn't for sure either. Stutzle, Raymond, Jarvis and Sanderson all go before him. After that there are some preference picks you can make that include Faber. I know we like to think he's a 1D because he plays a lot of minutes, but he's basically just right handed Brodin at this point. And he wasn't even as good as that for the second half of this season.

Anyone else read this using Eeyore’s voice?

It would be pretty funny for them to ship out Fiala and bring in Necas, but Necas would probably do really well opposite Boldy

He is worse less, just like if he scores 70 he's worth more. Keep in mind that the cap is increasing, so value don't stay the same year over year.

I wouldn’t match $7M so I can get another team’s unprotected 2026 1st.

There’d have to be more context to answer that. TOI, linemates, PP deployment….
I’m guessing his minutes overall will go down from this past season. Not because of anything he did, but because Ek should hopefully be healthy (reduction in ES minutes) and Kaprizov should be healthy too (reduction in PP minutes).

My guess is Hynes wants to run Kaprizov-Eriksson Ek-Boldy as the 1st line too.

So, if Rossi is the 2C, with guys like Nelson/Ohgren/Hartman/Zucc/Johansson/etc as his linemates, and he is getting PP2 minutes, what point totals are actually realistic? 50? 60? 70? My guess is the Wild view 50 as much closer to realistic than 70. That is why they are balking at $7M x 7 years.
