Is a 60 point center playing middle six and second powerplay though?
Might be reasonable for a young player with room to get better. 6 or 6.5 depending on the number of years seems good too.
Is a 60 point center playing middle six and second powerplay though?
Well he was a 70 point center when he was playing first line and on the PP so I don't see why he couldn't be a 60 point center going forward playing second line, if we get actual second line wingers to flank him.Is a 60 point center playing middle six and second powerplay though?
Logically it makes sense. I just think they would give him a similar role to someone like HartmanWell he was a 70 point center when he was playing first line and on the PP so I don't see why he couldn't be a 60 point center going forward playing second line, if we get actual second line wingers to flank him.
But if their plan is to use some combination of Johansson, Foligno, Gaudreau, Hartman as second liners like they did this year? No, he probably wouldn't be. But then, if that's their plan, it doesn't matter much who they pay to do what because that team isn't going anywhere.
To steal from purple daily, I have some “reckless speculation” on the Philly Foerster or 1st both being rejected and STG saying that it wasn’t Philly that put it out to the media and that it came from the Wild…
What if the Wild put that out there as a means of driving his signing price down? They obviously don’t want to pay him $7M and Pagnotta just so happened to break that Rossi was looking for 7x7 in a tweet referencing the Foerster/1st thing.
If that is the case, Guerin is playing a dangerous game.
I think Utah, Philly, Pens & Detroit are probably the most likely landing spot for Rossi.
I could see Guerin pulling the trigger on a Copp/Compher/Tarasenko + first round pick for Rossi trade. I think he wants to avoid RFA.
Compher/Copp/Tarasenko + first round pick for Rossi is nothing I would do but I couod see Guerin pulling the trigger based on his "getting help for Ek" talk.
I said this on the trade board, but I think Tampa Bay would be good spot for him to land. 2nd line center behind Point, pushes Cirelli down to a matchup 3C; Tampa can put 1 really good winger with him in Guentzel or Hagel. Tampa could use a shot of youth into their group as well. Maybe they can keep Rossi at a lower $ amount with the state tax thing.
How do we feel about Conor Geekie and Isaac Howard coming back? 2 near-NHLers.
Howard is a little short but I guess Geekie makes up for itHow do we feel about Conor Geekie and Isaac Howard coming back? 2 near-NHLers.
So he replaces Rossi perfectly fine thenHoward is a little short but I guess Geekie makes up for it
That at least sounds like a reasonable trade acquisition. If Guerin still has doubts about Rossi, then do a 2x 5M deal on a prove it deal. If he has two more 60-70 point seasons, then you sign him to a 7x 8.5M, or something like that, on a contract that takes him into his early 30's. I can see Rossi being a bit reluctant, as he might not trust Hynes to give him opportunities, but I can also see him being even more motivated to improve.I still think not giving 7x7 is f***ing ridiculous. If Big Balls fails to bridge and trades him for shit imma be pissed.
7x7 is an easy hell yeah in my head
Yes. This is how I feel as well.Until this settles I am not ready to be that worked up about it and I guess the main reason for that is I just don’t see Rossi as that type of player that you can feature on a high level team.
What do the gophers have to do with Marco Rossi?I would like to keep Rossi - he looks to have a bright future.
But if he has a greedy agent. maybe not.
That said, 7x7 might not be so unreasonable.
How's that for weasel-speak?
Normally 2 years of NHL experience should be enough to evaluate a player to decide if u wanna resign him or not. But it's true: Rossi's lost one devlopement year due COVID-19 so it's more difficult to judge even if rossi has improved every year so far. But why should this improvement should stop now at the age of 23?From the recent Athletic article there are two sticking points: one is obviously the money and term but the second one is Rossi's deployment in the lineup and that might be the far bigger sticking point for getting a contract done. Rossi and his agent clearly see the player in a top 6 role and if the Wild cannot commit to that I cannot see a deal being done, especially a bridge type deal. I am pretty sure that the money right now is not the issue at all. It's the commitment to giving Rossi a spot in the top 6 and planning with him there that will get this deal done or not. Nothing else.
Since the Wild are entering their "win now" period they have to be absolutely sure their second line center is a piece to a possible Championship and while Rossi has been playing very good he is missing a year of development which means a year of proving if he could be that guy. A year of BG being able to make up his mind about the skilled but undersized guy. This might explain also why they drafted him in the first place - with another year of professional hockey under his belt the assessment of Rossi as a piece of a contender could be quite a bit clearer than it is now.
I think this sums it up pretty good.I'm pretty much sure that Guerin is gonna trade him. His message at the press conference was clear: He wants to add veteran center depth behind Ek, so they only would keep Rossi if he's gonna sign a lowball offer in $ and term. Thats not gonna happen, Rossi derserves a payday now because of his performance at NHL level so far.
I don’t get why Rossi has the impression the team wouldn’t deploy him in a top 6 role. He earned the demotion to the 4th line leading up to and in game 1 of the playoffs with his play (injury related or not), but that doesn’t mean they view him as a bottom 6 player. His regular season minutes are top 6 amongst forwards in TOI per game (second to Ek at center) and top 4 in even strength TOI per game (more than Ek).From the recent Athletic article there are two sticking points: one is obviously the money and term but the second one is Rossi's deployment in the lineup and that might be the far bigger sticking point for getting a contract done. That is true. But a guy like Nyquist (and a few others) also earned a huge demotion, but didn’t get it. In fact, Hynes came out right away and defended Nyquist. Can you imagine if it were Rossi's lazy play that was responsible for that offside that took away that OT winning goal putting us up 3-1 in the series?I don’t get why Rossi has the impression the team wouldn’t deploy him in a top 6 role. I am just trying to shed some light onto what is the possible problem in him signing a contract. However if the Wild do not see him as a bottom 6 player in their coming lineup then it should not be hard to commit to him right? A 7mil 2nd line center on a contender is not a bad deal at all. So why are they not commiting? Herein lies the problem.I don’t get why Rossi has the impression the team wouldn’t deploy him in a top 6 role.
