Player Discussion Marco Rossi

Like I said, they think he lives under the tyranny of Hynes and Guerin.

I think if you think that's the same as what I said and what people are asking for, you're probably only interested in trolling and being a contrarian.

The fact that other guys should have got benched, but didn’t, is proof they mistreated Rossi.

Yeah, I don't see anyone pretending he doesn't have flaws or demanding he get special treatment, I just see people asking to play him in the top six where he's most likely to succeed, not benching him for things no one else gets benched for, and giving him a fair contract.

It’s cause here people treat him like he’s a ppg 2 way stud that never does anything wrong and lives under the tyranny of Hynes and Guerin. On the main boards people treat him like he’s an ant that will be squashed under any 6’ player’s boot and he only scores points because of Kaprizov. I got problems with both.

My answer for what his value, role, cost have been pretty consistent.
Value: Peterka or similar level offensive forward
Role: 2nd line winger that can flex into a center role. He’s a mini version of Ek, but slower, more offensively inclined, less defensively able, etc.
Cost: Nothing more than $7M AAV
How do you think his value is similar to Peterka? If you believe that, then you must think Rossi is a similar quality player. Why would we trade him then

I’d usually agree with this but I gotta say DBs right here. Rossi was in a funk and our front office was trying to win a playoff series, last thing they should be thinking about is what “demoting” him is going to do to his trade value. We can criticize their decisions in the moment but to sit here and come up with this conspiracy theory that BG and Hynes are unfairly picking on Rossi is f***ing stupid.

It's not about his trade value. Throughout the year when things aren't working and they shuffle lines, Rossi was usually the one to move down the lineup while other underperforming guys, sometimes moreso than Rossi, were kept in their normal spots.

In the playoffs, he had a bad start to the series, no doubt. But he got demoted and was pretty much the only change they made until game 4. By game 4, Rossi should have been back up and other guys moved down based on their play, if they were being consistent.

I get why it happens, most of them are veterans, most of them have experience, they get longer leashes, etc. But let's just call a spade a spade and not pretend it's right to do just because it's how it's done.

I forget the advanced stats but Russo was even talking about how Rossi was the biggest liability on the team end of year and had all the fancy stats to back what he was saying. He was our worst forward. He was playing like shit and got demoted. He’s a young guy, and during the season he’d get a longer leash and more opportunities to pull through a slump, but I don’t really fault them for dropping him in the lineup. Rossi did that to Rossi. Play better.

I'm not faulting them for dropping him down the lineup when he played like crap, what I'm faulting them for is not equally dropping others down the lineup for playing as bad or worse.

In the playoffs, by game 4, Rossi had already turned it around and was playing better than half of the guys in front of him. They played 3 more games in the series and Rossi was never moved back up the lineup to move the other guys down.

I do think they are similar value players.

If you look at their numbers the last two years they are pretty similar. Both seasons had similar goal totals for each player (comparing to themselves, not the other player). The main boost for each player was in the assist department and an increase in power play production. Both had roughly 1:30-2:00 increase in time on ice. Both had their shot totals drop from year 1 to year 2, while seeing a nice boost in shooting percentage. Both spent a significant amount of time with their team’s best offensive player.

The reason I think Guerin wants to trade Rossi is because he doesn’t fit the mold for what they want in a center. They want decently sized all situations guys (similar to Ek). That’s why the Wild are linked to Nelson. He fits that mold. Guerin got rid of Khusnutdinov because he didn’t fit that mold. When asked what Yurov needs to do to make the team, he said that he needs to have the “desire to play a 200ft game.”

The reason Buffalo does it is because Peterka is rumored as wanting out because he doesn’t like the direction Buffalo is heading in.

I'm thinking about Johansson and Freddy here. I was not able to watch some of the games because of work, but the stats didn't tell me they were doing anything to help the team.

TF? Brodin is THE most valuable D-guy in the Wild lineup!
(No, I'm not a Brodin fanboy...or maybe I am...so what?)
Soft? My ass!
Maybe if the guy wasn’t made of glass I would have a different opinion. He’s consistently missed 1/4 of a season for 3 years now. The best ability is availability.

He's blocking shots and doing god's work for the better of his team. That's why he is injured sometimes.
You know that, you don't fool me. He's one of the best defensive D-men in this league. His calmness under pressure, that's why the Wild has had that relative success they had under this horrible cap hell until now. You know that.

If our front office was truly trying to win a playoff series, they would have put Nyquist in the pressbox by Game 4. They lost all credibility with their decisions after Game 3. At that point, it was country club all the way win OR lose.
