Just want to throw this out there...
Boldy signed his 7 x $7M on 1/16/23. Up until that point in the season, he had:
12 goals and 29 points in 42 games (23g, 57p per 82 pace).
He was in the midst of 10 games without a goal and 5 games without a point.
In fairness, he also had a partial season before that was very good.
The report earlier was that Rossi was offered 5 x $5M "earlier this winter". His season splits are as follows:
Through 11/30 - 7 goals and 19 points in 24 games (24g, 65p per 82 pace)
Through 12/31 - 14 goals and 32 points in 38 games (30g, 69p per 82 pace)
Through 1/31 - 18 goals and 46 points in 52 games (28g, 72p per 82 pace)
Through 2/28 - 21 goals and 51 points in 60 games (29g, 70p per 82 pace)
Then, as we all know, March wasn't great.
It's just really hard to see anything else but a height tax being applied here.
Again, not saying that he deserves a blank check. Just found it interesting, and really still don't believe that the offer had much any "we value you" to it. Contrarily, Rossi at 5 x $5M seems like a very valuable trade asset.
