Eichel is getting owned by Ek and Rossi is a problem for other team’s trying to deploy their 4th line against the Wild’s “4th” line.

I really like Rossi next to at least one big bodied winger that can muck it up in the corners. Last year I liked him with Foligno to start. This year with Boldy and now Trenin. Same with Kaprizov. He works fine with Rossi/Zucc, but Ek and Boldy are nightmares for the other team’s dmen deep in their zone. Let the big dudes grind to get the puck and feed the skilled players.

Can the armistice include a provision that there is a lot of reasonable and solid ground between the 5 by 5 and 5 by 8 numbers and I bet we find a solid deal in there somewhere. Maybe even with a little extra term.
 
Interesting that the 5 x $5M offer was "earlier this winter" according to the article, which you can sort of infer was before his late season downturn.

Depending on what "earlier this winter" means:

He was 14 goals and 32 points and +12 in 38 games through December 31st.
He was 18 goals and 46 points and +18 in 52 games through January 31st.
He was 21 goals and 51 points and +16 in 60 games through February 28th.

We wouldn't consider March to be winter, would we?

Definitely don't blame him for turning down that deal at the time with how he was performing.

It's Minnesota, anything before June COULD be considered winter

Good article, really appreciate a feature piece about Rossi showing a glimpse of his character. It’s been overdue. He is a good guy. Hope the team can work something out with his camp over the summer.

Are there people that question his character? To me, his character has always been S tier.
 
Not really but it is good to be reminded. You barely read that much about him as a person since he is not a very quotable guy. Actually can’t remember his teammates ever featured talking about him as a teammate and locker room guy at all so that is kinda new.

yeah but that's like over a year old ;) it's fine, just thought Russo really tried to push the "person" Rossi into the spotlight not the "player" and is fully aware of the recent struggles - and criticism - coming his way. Good article at a good time. Hope he can continue his recent resurgence tonight!
 
Wings fan coming in peace. What's the issue with Rossi? It seems to me that he works hard and puts up points and is a young player. Why would the Wild want to move on from him?

Contract price: The Wild are confirmed to have offered $5x5 and Rossi turned it down. I would have too, frankly. Guerin has also said he doesn't want to pay him more than Boldy.

Size: there is unconfirmed speculation that the Wild want more size in their top-6.

What they won't get for him: a bigger, young, equally productive center. I wouldn't trade him while he's still improving this quickly, personally, and I'd pay him just shy of what Boldy makes, inflation adjusted (6.8-7.6 million); a bridge deal would bring that cap hit down a bit, and nonperformance in the playoffs might also impact it, but so far he's been fine in limited time in this series.

That said, if they are hellbent on trading him, I think it would have to be for a top-6 player and a pick or prospect. Or maybe for a better player than Rossi and we add a pick or prospect instead, but I question the likelihood of that being available.

Most of us are mystified as to why, especially given the lack of scoring top 6 C's on this team, or in their prospect pool.

Either the rumors about him being moved are exaggerated, or Guerin's size fetish has gotten out of control.

Fiala fits our core age and his contract is a massive bargain. He’s exactly what we need in our top 6 and he never should have been traded.
