Somewhere in time
2x5mil maybe
oof...a contract like that will hopefully not be offered during the season because it will for sure put a damper on the current excitement. Pretty sure he is worth more than that right now. But finding the right time for contract talks is also part of the process. Don't think the Wild will do any contract talks for a while yet, they missed the boat during the off season. Hope Rossi is not pricing himself out of the Wild longterm plans.

Lundell is 6’1 Rossi

Eh, not quite. Lundell is a more Barkov lite stylistically, whereas I see Rossi as a smaller, center variant of Parise. I know, I know, but I mean young Parise. Both have good positioning around the net, battle for loose pucks, good hands, and good hustle. Rossi's not quite there in terms of speed but imo possesses little better offensive instincts and seems loyal to the core.

As to who's better right now? In a vacuum I'd give the edge to Rossi, but both are good. For our team Rossi's a better fit; I think he's more suited to a top line role, while Lundell is a premium 3rd line centre; a middle-six guy ideally, much like he's used in Florida.

I don't have any problem with it.

I don't know. Wouldn't it be better to lock him down now in case he keeps progressing and costs even more in 2 years?

4x5mil? Or at least 3 years?
The longer you go, the more they are going to be looking at Boldys deal as the comparable.

I would do 1 or 2 or long term. I don’t want to take him right to FA. I think 6x6 is fair.

I think anything long term starts to look like the Boldy deal, if not a bit more due to the cap increase and the position.

Even at 3 years I think it's 6M for him.

A center that scored 40 last year and is currently on pace for 70+....they probably should have offered 5x5 last year.

A long term deal for him should probably be 7.5-8M right now.

$7Mx8. Lock him up. If he gets to 70 points without a ton of PP1 time, he’s liable to command a lot more down the line if we wait around. He’s the type of guy who will add something to his game every summer. Pretty safe investment

Take Marco out of it specifically, the current market for 2nd contracts for centers coming off of 70+ point seasons (his current pace) is probably 8 x $8M at minimum. Might be 8 x $9M with a $90M+ cap. So start there. Now, remove a certain amount of cap for every year under 8 years, say $500k. I'll split the difference:

8 x $8.5M
7 x $8M
6 x $7.5M
5 x $7M
4 x $6.5M
3 x $6M
2 x $5.5M
1 x $5M

Pick your favorite.

This is what I had, but 500k more at each year. 1x5.5, 2x6, etc.

It seems like Rossi has found an extra gear the last couple of games. Kap's out and Rossi has arguably been the best forward in this stretch. That clearly shows that he wasn't a passenger to Kap.

He is now on pace for 30g, 42a so it seems like he's developed into a 70p player right in front of our eyes.

If he keeps up that pace, Wild gonna have a Problem resigning him. Kap will get a new world-record-contract and every game Rossi scores is gonna make an offersheet for Rossi more likely.

When I reread this thread some of u are ok trading away Rossi and some of u didn't want to give him 5m+ per year. Some of of you were ok with Guerin decission not to cantact Rossis agent and wait for the Offseason.

This could become a problem now. The ultimate hfboards solution: Trade him while his value is high I guess.

Guerin should learn from his idiotic handling of Fiala and sign Rossi long term right now for the best number he can get. The price is indeed going up and we will be underwhelmed by the return I’m sure
Said that 3 weeks ago and it’s getting worse daily. Guerin is well on track to bungling Rossi in the same manner he did Fiala

He's actually on pace for 75 points not 72...

They aren't going to have a problem re-signing him. It'll just mean that we probably won't be able to go to free agency to fill the remaining top 6/top 9 spots. They'll have to be internal ELCs.

Kaprizov at $15M, Rossi at $8.5M and Khusnutdinov at $1M means we're probably looking at a 2026-27 roster like this:

Kaprizov - Rossi - Yurov (2nd year, ELC)
Ohgren (2nd year, ELC) - Eriksson Ek - Boldy
Foligno - Heidt (1st year, ELC) - Hartman
Trenin - Khusnuts - Gaudreau

Brodin - Faber
Buium (2nd year, ELC) - Spurgeon
Middleton - Jiricek (?)

Gustavsson (?)
Wallstedt

With a $95.5M cap, that's ~$8.3M for Gustavsson and Jiricek.
