Player Discussion Marco Rossi

New Rumor just posted on main page that Vancouver loves Rossi, Lets get a deal around Pettersson
I like this idea. Pettersson could work very well with Kap. He has a VG shot and is a great playmaker.
His talent is undeniable and it just didn't cease to exist overnight. I'm convinced he will rebound next year.

I've read repeatedly on the Athletic that the Wild aren't willing to offer a Boldy level contract. and Rossi's camp won't accept a bridge after his demotion in the playoffs.

How about a bridge he can't refuse? 3 years 7 million. Not a Boldy contract, but who turns down that money with the chance to cash in in 3 years?

Rossi is not Trenin, who had a run of 25 straight periods of hockey without a single shot on goal. That was worth an AAV of 3.5 mil. (He was paid 4 mil this last season)

I’m at the point where we just leave 3 x $5M on the table and don’t trade him. If he wants to sit out during the season, oh well. :dunno: Don’t like it? Sign an offersheet and good riddance. We will take the 1st and 3rd.

I’m going to start judging moves on whether Bill Zito would do it or not. Paying Rossi $7M after 1 good season is a mistake. Zito would never do that. Use the 1st from the offersheet + our own picks and prospects to go out and get a good RFA with size.

I mean you make it sound so easy. Emphasizing Rossi's deficiencies and marginalizing his achievements. Now it is just "one good season" out of his 10 seasons in the league. Oh wait...

Strange that the same didn't apply to Boldy. Or Faber for that matter. The examples do not end here since it is very common to give players on entry level contracts NEW contracts (imagine that!) that reflect their market value.

The Wild just do not see the player as being part of their future and that is fine. They are not alone in that and only time will tell who was on the right side of this argument. Let's accept that without throwing any silly insults, marginalizations, or whatever around to feel better about this as a Wild fan. It just makes you look very petty.

He actually was on the "Faber isn't that great and only had a single good series" side a couple summers ago, so it did apply there. It felt a lot like this, and was a constant point of contention all summer.

Yeah, there were people who disagreed with Faber being ranked higher than Rossi on the board's prospect poll.

Granted, it was only one series where he was playing on a sheltered role. So unlike Rossi, Faber actually had a very small sample size of success in a very sheltered role.

I am not talking about the user or his opinion of players. I am talking about contracts being offered to young players at market value or even above based on probable future projections.

Rossi's only choice is to sign a contract, sit for a year, or try to get an OS that MN won't match. OS's are pretty rare. I think Guerin waits them out. 3x7M would be an overpay on a bridge deal.

Not a Schmaltz guy. But I know he’s been a popular target here for years

Rather have Hayton. Think a good middle 6 C would improve the team more than another one-dimensional scoring winger

I suspect that Guerin's issue with a 7 x $7M deal has more to do with the money than the years.

Faber is exactly why we shouldn’t give every guy coming off his best season a big contract. $8.5M for 30 points and above average defense is not good.

Rossi is an RFA. He has no power outside of an offersheet and I’m at the point where I hope he is petty enough to sit out because he thinks he is entitled to a top role even when he plays like shit. Let’s see how he feels about $0 compared to $5M and what sitting out does for his career prospects.

Still so so much put on ~17 of 88 games.

One of the worst offense teams in the league could use another “one dimensional scoring winger” IMO

I like this idea. Honestly haven't watched a ton of Petterson myself but the point totals look great with this year being his first down year. This could potentially be one of those few chances that come around to buy low on a 1st line center and hope the down year was an anomaly. Not saying I'm all in on him, but this is the type of move I'd prefer we use Rossi for if we're not gonna re-sign him
