Proposal: Marco Rossi for Matty Beniers

Zero chance Seattle goes for this, Rossi massively looks like a product of Kaprizov and Seattle doesn't have a Kaprizov to prop up Rossi.

This is pretty much how i see this proposal. It just doesn't make any sense at all for Seattle. Beniers has had disappointing production since his one big year out of the gates, but he's developing into a really solid all around player and i have little doubt that if you stapled Kaprizov to his wing to drive play offensively, he'd put up more substantial numbers than he has with an assorted sea of mediocre revolving door wingers. I'd also argue that Beniers appears to have maybe found something in the way of chemistry with Kakko. The two of them looked pretty good to me at times once they were put together. That duo has the makings of a terrific two-way 2nd Line for a very long time to come.

I don't think it's a terribly uncommon concern for teams to be worried about Rossi as an arbitration eligible 60Pt Kaprizov Center. We've seen other guys like Hartman have wildly unsustainable "career years" centering him. If you end up paying full value for that 60pts on another team and he turns back into a smallish, slowish, defensively not great, weak on faceoffs sort of ~40pt "tweener"...you're going to have a much worse contract on your hands than the one Beniers is underperforming production-wise. Because you're not even going to have that solid 2nd line two-way sort of guy with better size and speed.

So if there were anything to entice Seattle to make this deal at all, it'd have to be Minnesota tossing in some not insubstantial additional high end asset(s). Even then, i'm not sure the gamble really makes any sense. But it certainly wouldn't be a straight across swap.

Take this for what you will, but I went through his season this year: Kaprizov factored into the same number of Rossi's points (19) as Rossi had points without Kaprizov (or Boldy) factoring in (also 19).

From the Kraken perspective I don't know if a Rossi - Beniers swap is super compelling but it is at least something you think about. I think you're overrating Beniers. He's a solid player but with a very low scoring rate and nothing amazing defensively yet.

I really just don't see how that benefits Seattle at all. You're getting a guy who is...similarly productive, but smaller, slower, and leaning on Kaprizov more. That makes zero sense for Seattle to me.

The only reason I’d like to actually see this trade happen is to watch the fans from both teams who argued so hard for their (current) players value immediately flip flop their opinions.

Similarly productive?

It's not close.

Beniers has consistently been the third most productive guy on his line for the last 3 years. Please stop talking.

I was listening to the pods and if what russo is saying is true, rossi is looking for more than boldy's money which in this case with how much Rossi has struggled lately, I would trade him for Matty or another C . The sign Brock Nelson in free agency
They need to stay the hell away from Brock Nelson.

Why does Minnesota hate Rossi so mcuh? Why is he only playing 11 minutes a game? What am I missing?

You don’t want Beniers for him. Seattle wouldn’t want Rossi for Beniers. Were aligned.
Not the type of trade I would want to do. If there was a Rossi trade I would be game for, it would be someone like Vilardi with additions from the Minnesota side. Tall, heavy, right hand shot, goal scorer, young-ish, etc.

I did find it amusing that Rossi weighs roughly the same as Beniers. You’d think a 6’2” guy like Beniers would weigh more than ~181.

I think Beniers is going to have a lot more Value than Rossi for the age / size / perceived upside combination, not to mention he’s locked up for a while. It’s easy to see a world where his cap hit is a bargain long term if he turns into maybe a little more offensive Cirelli type.

Or maybe I'm also a Kraken fan who has lived in Seattle for the last 4 years and realize that Beniers for Rossi is a shitty deal for Seattle.

The offensive upside Rossi offers over Beniers is simply not high enough to sacrifice the defensive advantage that Beniers has. And that's even if you completely ignore that Seattle has no one like Kaprizov to help Rossi offensively, plus you completely ignore that Beniers is signed long-term while Rossi is a RFA that needs a new contract.
Strange, I've never seen you on our boards, not that I've been there long myself.

Seattle fan here saying that the deal is definitely close. It depends a lot on how much we think Rossi will get paid, and of course whether we think he can repeat his performance in Seattle and whether Beniers can improve.

Personally while I would be happy to keep Beniers or trade for Rossi, I think that Seattle is too low on centers to trade for someone who may ideally be a wing in the NHL. For sure if we got McKenna or Misa/Hagens or Wright takes another step forward I could see it but by that time he'll probably be signed or traded.

Also I'm not confident that Beniers will outproduce Rossi even if Rossi doesn't have Kaprisov lol, Beniers last two years are about the same as Rossi's last year. And if he can do that mostly playing on the 3rd line...
