The player you see right now is not indicative of the player Rossi has been this year or the player he can be moving forward. He’s obviously dealing with something. He’ll, he’s only 23, he can be an even better player than he is right now. With that being said, there’s a lot of truth to the stat inflation argument, but not even because of Kaprizov (that is a true “I don’t want games take”). The guy was thrust into 1st line, 1st powerplay, 18.5 mins oer game for almost the entire season, and he almost exclusively played with one of Kaprizov or Boldy at all times. He was buoyed by his situation to be certain. To me I see Yanni Gourde when I watch him. He’s a good player. He’s very smart and alert out there. He’s a good not great skater, especially for his size, and the big issue is that the puck game is just not as good as we had hoped when we drafted him. Again, I like the player, I just don’t want to pay him based off of production he achieved in a role he won’t retain. And if he does retain it, we’re not going anywhere.
