Assuming Marner walks, I think Toronto should consider going after Jonathan Marchessault (4 x 5.5). He has an NMC but players with NMCs have been moved before.

- 34 years old
- Still produces well
- With cap increase, term doesn’t scare me
- Recent Conn Smythe with VGK

What would it take for TOR to land him?

This is one I could see happening, in fact Friedman brought it up on a recent 32 thoughts I think it was the episode before the most recent one.

Plus Treliving talked A LOT about changing the DNA.

To me that means bringing in winning players.

Players with rings.

Marchessault is a pretty good player still, and I don't think it's at all correct to say his contract is "horrible"? He can score 30 goals on a decent team, plus he hustles and all that good stuff. That's pretty fair for $5.5M these days. :dunno:

But he's also possibly a little "on the outs" with Nashville, since he's the one player who has had the guts to at least low-key call out the ridiculously bad coaching on the team. And I doubt that Preds management is very happy about that. Obviously Marchessault himself is not happy about things, so waiving his NMC is definitely something that shouldn't be looked at as much of an impediment. :dunno:

So yeah, he's available. But he's a good player. We aren't taking "junk" for him. No 2nds or Robertsons or whatever. He's worth a 1st or better prospect. He's not a throw-away player.

2 threads for Marchessault who's 34 years old, paid 5.5 and still 5'9"
I think they Leafs can spend 5.5 better than that.
He is producing well, but, at 5.5 he should, and the Leafs CANNOT accept his remaining term, they need as much cap space as possible for next seasons UFA class, it may be the best ever!!
