Huge loss for CBJ with Marchenko suffering a broken jaw.

Will CBJ reward its players and fans by buying this trade deadline or will they just bow out of the race?

Lots of Wingers out there and with top end guys like Boeser who has been linked to CBJ this season already.

CBJ has lots of talented prospects , They also have 2x 1st round picks. Extra one coming from the Jiricek trade to Minny.

Well, similar rumors involving Petterson turned out to be grossly exaggerated, so IDK about Boeser.

As to the broader topic, nobody really knows who Waddell might target, if he's looking in that direction and not calling guys up. A common name tossed around HFCBJ is Nyquist, but that's more fan speculation.

Maybe, maybe not.

All depends on how long he will be out for. But also depends on if Chinakov comes back soon or not…he would definitely help them right now.

Which Pettersson rumors? Canucks may very well still move EP40

A hiccup might be Boeser has a 10 team no trade list, who knows if CBJ is on it.

CBJ may also not want to pay the price it would take to get Boeser if there's no indication that Boeser would extend there.

They might just for for a cheaper pure rental acquisition.

Boeser would fit in very nicely though with what CBJ is doing.

He would be a a great 1 shot gamebreaker for that team.

i think the boeser stuff has some legs but isn't a move the jackets would be making immediately, and wouldn't preclude them from making a lesser move with more urgency.

to wit: with marchenko out and the deadline over a month away, the blue jackets would be looking for a scoring line winger, who
  1. is available for trade right now
  2. has a reasonably low acquisition cost
  3. ideally is a short-term or two-year rental
hence nyquist's name being thrown around on our board.

I'd think Zucker would be available. Not quite a replacement for Marchenko who's having a fabulous year.
not a name i had really considered but i think he'd be a good fit. wonder about acquisition cost though. he's having a really good year.

edmonton feels like a good trading partner here – they haven't been getting much out of jeff skinner or viktor arvidsson and i'm sure could use the cap space elsewhere. or maybe morgan geekie from boston.

Something to consider: Carolina under Waddell was very passive with rentals for a long time, to the point of external criticism. Guentzel arrived in year 6 of this run of playoff appearances.

You make it sound like Waddell was successfull in Carolina. They consistently failed to reach expectation and If he was a smart man he might want to do things differently.

Zucker to a playoff team at 50% for a late 1st feels like a forgone conclusion.

He absolutely was successful in Carolina. The lack of a breakthrough doesn’t render unprecedented (for Hartford/Carolina) regular season performances irrelevant.

Waddell took a different approach earlier in his GM career. In 2007, he went all in with Tkachuk (for a 1st) and Zhitnik (for Coburn) in Atlanta’s lone playoff run. He was hammered for it, particularly after it ended in a 1st round sweep.

It’s likely too early for Columbus to make that type of trade.

I am thinking more about Brock Nelson. He is a rental but extended for 2 years would fit the bill and not block a lot of the younger players.

The cost to acquire may be prohibitive.
