Value of: Marchand to a Cup contender

Marchand isn't that guy anymore, he's not bringing that kind of return. He's almost 37, had multiple injuries and is clearly declining heavily.

To Vegas for whatever return, then hold hands with Stone on their way to IR (possibly some face licking as well), then add couple pieces at the deadline.

A guy who's having an off year pacing for 30/35 and a proven playoff performer? He'd get more than you think.

He’s also coming off major surgeries- how many dudes have looked slow upon return, only to pick it up after 6+ months?

No guarantee there, but I think it’s worth considering.

Assuming the Bruins are well outside of the playoff picture at the trade deadline and Marchand would be willing to go to a contender, what would your team offer for him? Bruins targets are elite potential prospects and young players with elite potential who are already playing in the NHL.

Marchand isn’t returning anything with the prefix ‘elite’ in it

If anything he’s a glorified cap dump at this point, he’s a 60-ish point winger making over $6m and is a UFA rental

Remember when that 2 girls 1 cup thing was....a "thing"?? I'd rather restart that myself than see him in my team's uniform. Wait no...Bryson and Kevyn Adams but you gotta take it in the next 20 mins or it goes away.....

He should go to the Avs, play with his buddy MacKinnon, try to use that as a way to convince Crosby to go to the Avs as well. Just play together all year instead of during their summer camps

Marchand 50% retained to Vegas for Holtz, Brisson, 2nd rd pick with possiblity of another pick if they win a Cup. Something along those lines.

Vancouver should make a bid.

Our fanbase will boo Marchand at every home game, causing him to go super saiyan and take over the league for half of the season/playoffs.

As much as people think he doesn't have value, his value is to the Bruins. If, in a vacuum, they did trade him, it would need a low tier blue chip and a first. He is still on pace to score 60-70 points on a severely offensively crippled team, which at his salary is a bargain. Otherwise I don't think the bruins even entertain it. He, like Bergy, will retire a bruin.

I get the vibe there won’t be any teardown or major retool while the owner is still alive.

That said, if they’re out at the deadline, could Marchand leave as a rental and the re-sign over the summer? I could see that. I imagine the price is the standard late first a mid round pick or two and a dece prospect.

Thanks for finally having somebody coming up with a reasonable trade offer.

You can surely discuss if he can bring back a elite prospect or young player with elite potential back in return without teams having a bidding war and him having not a great Four Nations Tournament but to say he would be a "glorified cap dump" is on another level of delusional ...

Marchand is still a pesky first line winger and proven playoff warrior who absolutely has more value if made available at the trade deadline then most people here want to convince themselves.

I mean.... "Elite" is a pretty subjective term but at least based on what my opinion of Elite would be there's absolutely 0% chance Marchand returns anyone with that kind of upside.

He'd get the Giroux package, which for reference was a 1st + 3rd + Owen Tippett(A good prospect struggling to take the next step).

If there is a bidding war and Marchand has a great showing at the Four Nations I can absolutely see Boston receiving a guy like Calum Ritchie from the Colorado Avalanche. You can disuss now if Ritchie has elite potential or more top 6 but at least he is a very good prospect Colorado could be willing to sacrifice to go on another deep run. Of course it depends on the status of Landeskog and if Colorado can make the cap work.

Last year and the year before he put up 67pts. This year he's on pace for 62pts. Thats with have subpar assist numbers because Boston is struggling to score. He's ranked #1 in expected goals in the NHL among ALL players.

Not sure I'd say he "clearly declining heavily"

The Canucks badly need veteran leadership and don't really want futures back. The Bruins don't want futures either, and badly need a top-line center who isn't Elias Lindholm; Vancouver's said to be dangling more than one.

Their GMs should talk packages that could make sense for each (with a Marchand extension in there).

(Realistically, Marchand retires a Bruin, though.)
