I didn't trade any firsts.

Well, you did, but it wasn't yours to begin with, but let's explore your 1sts.

Off the get go he used it to grab Alex Galchenyuk. We all, or mostly all loved it.

How'd he turn out ?

Got traded for Max Domi, who got traded (along with a 3rd) for Anderson. Josh is overpaid, but when he actually gives a f***, but isn't invested he's still a solid NHLer.

2013 Mike McCarron - you rushed him to be in the NHL because this soft ass team needed a player like that. He was traded for nothing, but he himself is looking like a solid 4th line centre

Nikita Scherbak ( it was reported the Habs liked Pastrnak, but didn't trade up for him. The only time I recall the Habs trading us in his tenure was for Brett Lernout) he was lost on waivers and now is closer to playing beer league with us than playing in the show.

2015 - Noah Juulsen. Suffered a lot of injuries, was lost on waivers and is a number 6/7dman

2016 - Mikhail Sergachev - traded for a French Canadian star! Who was underwhelming, wasn't re-signed and now seems to be doing alright in Colorado, but dealing with injuries.

2017 - Ryan Poehling - started off with a hat trick(he didn't see a second in ot despite having 3 goals) was traded along with Petry to the Pens and now seems to be a decent 4th line centre

2018 - Desperate Kotkaniemi - overpaid, 3rd line centre, but probably 4th line centre. Lost him to an offer sheet and then acquired Dvorak who, aside from his first season just has no luck being healthy and now that he is, struggles a lot offensively.

2019 - Caufield ! Habs got super lucky he's small and kept falling.

2020 - Guhle. Probably a number 3d, could be more, but that's good value at 16.

2021 - Mailloux he's doing well offensively in the A. Will be interested to see what he can be.

Let's look at the draft classes as a whole!

2012. Current NHLers ? 0

2013 Current NHLers 2 (McCarron could honestly slip out sooner rather than later)

2014 current NHLers 1, Jake Evans. Should have a few more seasons.

2015 current NHLers Juulsen I guess.

2016 Current NHLers 1 and kind of 2 with Pezzetta ?

2017 Current NHLers 2, but Poehling is closer to be out and Primeau, if he can't play better might not be one much longer.

2018 currently NHLers 3, Harris might fall out sooner rather than later.

2019 current NHLers I'll say 3. Caufield, Struble and RHP. Though RHP will probably be waiver fodder next year if not sometime this year.

2020 and 2021 while not at 5 year mark, let's just take a little peak

2020 currently have Guhle, but Dobes and Tuch should make the show and play some games at the very least.

2021 currently 0, but Mailloux has played games, along with Kapanen, but nothing showed they aren't ready. Roy is there, too ,but I don't think he's ready and despite playing be will get sent down soon.

So, 77 picks 15 players are still in the NHL.

Of those 15 players we have

3 number 4 centres(McCarron, Evans, Poehling)
2 number 6(or lower) dman. (Juulsen, Harris)
1 number 2(Maybe number 3) goalie (Primeau)
1 top 6 RW (Caufield)
1 bottom 6 winger later turned top 6 winger (Lehkonen)
1 number 1, or 2 dman (Sergachev)
1 number 2, or 3 dman (Guhle)
1 number 3, or 4 dman (Romanov)
1 number 5, or 6 dman (Struble)
2 4th line/13th (or lower) forward (Pezzetta, RHP)
1 number 3 centre (Kotkaniemi)

So, the Habs based on what we know(or pretty much certain) of the Habs draft picks by Bergevin.

1stLine LW - 1st Line C - 1st Line RW
Lehkonen - 2nd line C - Cole Caufield
3rd line LW - Kotkaniemi - 3rd Line RW
Pezzetta/RHP - Evans/Poehling/McCarron - (move one of the 3 centres, or 2 LWers here)

Sergachev - 1st pairing RD
Guhle/Romanov - 2nd pairing RD
Harris/Struble - Juulsen

Number 1 goalie
Primeau.

We'll give Bergevin Arber Xhekaj, too, so another 5/6 dman and I won't add Fournier, Verbeek, Waked, or any others.

You kept all your 1sts because you're an idiot. You had an idiot as a sidekick in that muscle dummy Timmins.

You had a stud goalie and decided to almost never try to add to the offense to help him out. You horded your picks just to produce f***ing nothing.

How anyone looks at Bergevin's body of work and thinks "hmmm you know what, I want him in my organization"

Bergevin is such a shit GM I would ask any GM I'm contemplating to hire for the position if they think Bergevin would be an asset to add. If they said yes, they're disqualified right there.

It's why I feel bad for LA fans.

No, I won't tell you how I really feel about him

There were two summers he had which I think were the worst I have ever seen from a habs GM.

That year where he lost markov and radulov for nothing while signing alzner, streit, hemsky and I believe schlemko was part of that summer too..... just dreadful and a massive step backwards for the club.

Molson could have fired him after that since it was such a collosally bad summer, but it seemed like he rebounded with some good moves afterwards, and then the 2021 summer happened where he totally crapped the bed all over again. Granted, this one was a little out of his hands compared to the other summer with the sudden retirements of Weber and price, but he did let danault walk for nothing too. He should not have been allowed at that point to double down as there was no coming back from those losses. Instead, he went out and signed savard while trading a first pick for dvorak. Clearly, he had lost the plot by this point.

The number of guys he let walk for nothing was alarming and I'm guessing he was a bad negotiator because up to that point, the Habs rarely lost a key player to ufa status. I don't consider 2009 for the purposes of this discussion because that was not due to poor negotiations but rather an intentional shake up of the inner core.

You can argue wisniewski in 2011 but markov was coming back the following year and he was always going to be the emergency replacement who happened to price himself out of montreal because of how well he played.

The other that comes to mind is souray but they went out and signed hamrlik to offset that loss. I'd say that one ultimately worked out well.

Nicely done.

We could also talk about the players he skipped over... but that's second guessing. Or the trades he f***ed up on, like not taking the Edmonton Oilers offer for Subban, that would have meant we don't trade Sergachev for f***ing Drouin and probably don't draft Kotkaniemi over Tkchuk. But hey, yeah, that's a long and dark path to the realm of Mordor. Doom awaits that path.

Here's hoping we can make the playoffs 6 times , win 7 playoffs series, reaching 1 semi-final and 1 stanleu cup final in the next 6 years, that would be so great.
Again.................he rode a HOF goalie into a career ending scenario, and that's his claim to fame.
I am sure even yourself would have done a better job during those 10 years. I know you would have.
Total gongshow of a GM.
He must have made Pierre laugh even just on the inside about his story about being offered another contract LOLOLOL.

2017 was the beginning of the end, he couldn't havepossibly had a worse offseason.

Pretty much. No hockey, it's dark outside too.
A ton of info you posted, nicely done..............most of us really and truly have forgotten how truly bad this guy was at his job. But hey, he thinks he is a legend so it must be true.

I had to laugh at the part where he says he never traded a 1st round pick which he did.............but fails to mention he also never mentioned he did NOT ever get us a 1st round pick either.

Fail.....Fail on all levels.
3 years later is what it took for he and Pee-Air to come out of the closet, thinking people would still not be pi$$ed off with him. LOL.............never change Marc!!

About that fight … 💀

Impressive eh!! lol
What about the time he scored a goal by throwing it in his own net...............Roman Turek will never forget!!

Disingenuous post. Bergevin started his tenure with Plekanec, Pacioretty, Markov, Subban, Gallagher and Price, while Hughes started with the worst team in the league and multiple anchor contracts, courtesy of your clown hero..

Norris calibre defenseman, roughly a forty goal scorer, the best goaltender in the league, a top pick , a soon-to-be-dominant top line two way winger, a top defensive third line center in Eller, Markov, and Plekanec - all squandered because Bergevin was toying around with gritty fourth liner players and junk that the team supposedly needed to be "hard to play against" while suffering under a manifestly incompetent dinosaur of a coach for far, far too long.

You really can't fathom why?

The architect of doom spoke for the first time in 3 years and pats himself on the back for a job well done the whole way. Seems like an easy target to vent frustrations. At least it's not one of our players for once.
Again, if you were expecting he was going to blast himself in an interview, I don't know what to tell you….

Or buy a dog if you want loyalty.
  • At the end of the day, trading is hard
  • Centres are not available
  • My biceps did not save me
  • Gally is my bro forever
  • My BFF Michou was far way from me so I was glad to be forced to step down
  • Expect the unexpected
  • I needed loyalty, but Radulov wasn’t exactly man’s best friend

I am a lot harsher on Berg now than I was during his tenure.

He never evolved as a GM. Maybe his worst off season was his last. Not signing Danault, trading a 1st and a 2nd for Dvorak, signing Savard, signing Hoffman. With Price and Weber done, he should of started the rebuild then.

He also was never able to take advantage of the unlimited resources the Habs could pay for. No analytics team, no real development team, small scouting staff etc.

You can't give him an F because he did make 2 conference finals and a SC Final.

Solid D for me.
