But Bergevin feels he left Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes decent pieces to rebuild with.

“I never traded a first-round pick when I was there,” Bergevin said. “Not that I wouldn’t, but I didn’t. And you can look at the draft picks I left them. And I’m proud of that. I didn’t put that franchise in a bad spot. People might argue that, but I don’t know where you would argue that.”

MB is a clown

Kind of a testament of all I didn't like about MB. It's not about what you do good or bad in a vacuum, it's about the whole picture.

Closer to his departure, accumulating picks was the right move as the team was crashing down quickly.

But early on in his tenure, he was gifted a solid core with a stud in each key position except center: a top 10 goalscoring winger, a Norris caliber defenseman, the best goalie in the league. Trading a first pick or two might have been a good move.

Ultimately, the Habs inability to draft/develop solid players is the biggest weakness of the franchise though.

I would have took the extension. Around 10 million in money too much to turn down. Even if I knew I had another job

Good GM got us to Finals, 95% GMs can't. Was runner up to GM of year. Should have won. On the 4 thoroughbreds and good netminding. Many teams are copying it today. Plus never traded no future picks to do it. Most cup teams did.

Good trades Pizza Man and Romanov arguably best trade in franchise history. Suzuki, Tatar good trade. Weber and Petry a steal. Ryder, Vanek, Weaver, Weise major reason we upset Bruins. A little payback from 2011.

This team is mostly his, Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle, Wifi. A 10 year job well done.

I strongly disagree, but just wanted to point one thing out.

This team that's "mostly his", has finished 32nd, 28th, 28th and currently ranks 29th in the whole league. By the time it's climbing the standings again, it would be disingenuous to continue calling it "his" team.

Unless you were sarcastic?

We are almost out from underneath his trash pile. Armia, Dvorak, Savard, and Evans (but hopefully he resigns) are all done this year. That's a significant chunk of crap. One more year of Price's cap nonsense left as well.

Only Gally and Anderson left after that, but they've both been much better this year. Gally has been amazing quite frankly, def not worth 6.5 but I'll take what's he's giving. Anderson less so but with the cap rising maybe 5.5 won't seem so bad, hopefully.

It's kind of weird, you look around the league and some teams definitely had worst contracts, on an individual level. SJ, Minnesota come to mind with the Vlasic, Couture, EK, Burns, Suter, Parise contracts.

Bergevin left a pile of small rocks in the Habs shoes. It's just a lot of small cuts, bad contracts and players that add up to a bad situation.

Yes he did. He acknowledged that the Aho move was bad and that the Gallagher contract sucks. If you're expecting him to go 'I WAS TOTAL TRASH, WOW' that was never going to happen.

He was a terrible GM who had zero balls or vision but expecting him to talk like an HF poster is silly.
We know, he is not the most humble guy out there hey.

Does anyone ever wonder why guys like MB and MT never get hired again?? Most of us don't.

It has nothing to do with humility. 90% of this board has trash takes and I don't recall many ever going 'WOW, I'M SUCH A TRASHCAN OF A POSTER' either and I wouldn't chalk that up to arrogance.

Unpopular opinion but underrated GM. Here was a local(French) management talent the hand rushed and made him learn on the job in the biggest market. If he had gotten more experience first he would’ve been better.

I know people will go on about how he sucks and it was old boys club but we literally have 2 GMs and they hired a dude with zero coaching experience to be coach because they’re friends.

The one thing Molson learnt was to put a layer between him and the GM. Best decision made to let someone more hockey focused manage the GM.

His tenure wasnt all bad he did make some good trades. It was his drafting, player development, coaching hirings and signings he was bad at. A lot of those contracts are still here and hirting the team. Now he said he never traded a 1st round pick, now thats true bit how many of those 1st round picks helped the team? Would have been better to add to the team for a playoff push instead of ott, martinsen, king types. Vanek was a good add but he fluked into that as the isles waited too long. Same with the suzuki trade he fluked into that too pacioretty nixed multiple deals to other clubs. He also wanted glass but vegas countered with suzuki. Id give him a solid C ranking overall.

Honestly alot of people have a problem with the deadweight that Bergevin * Left us *. I don't, I have a problem with him wasting 10 years of the franchise , that's 100 times worst than any garbage contract he left us

Never traded a first round pick and we had bottom 10 on ice rosters in the entire league without Price , for his entire tenure here , not competing not rebuilding , doing jack sh** f*** all nothing lmao

Underrated gm? hahaha Who do you think is consulting the kings franchise on all the garbage moves they've been making these past 2 years. Foxhole buddies are up there now
