There’s not much lower your value can get when you need to add to acquire an expiring UFA in Brazeau. There’s certainly a lot more upside though.You've got a little Ek (or maybe even Hartman) to you.
You're right, they could have given him more time to see if he'd develop something in the AHL (or KHL again). The thing of it is that he may not have developed something and his value could absolutely go lower; we don't actually know that this is a low point because we can't see the future. Hell, this could be the highest it will ever again be. I love that you've got faith in him, I admire it even, but he's small, about a year or two from peak-age for most players, and hasn't shown much in the NHL, so you can't blame Guerin for not doing the same.
I would’ve preferred targeting someone we could re-sign in the offseason. This guy is purely a rental (or he at least should be).
$200K isn’t going to be worth anything with the cap going up.

It's still worth something when you're cap tight or trying to save space for the deadline. $200k turns into roughly $1m of deadline space.

Way too early to say he is a pure rental, he could very well step in and be a great fit. Big, RHS Wing has been a massive need on this team, I see this as a pretty similar situation to the Jiricek trade, big RHS with room for improvement in the skating department, but clear finishing ability at this level and opportunity for a better fit. Our scouting staff must like him and the potential fit, say what you will about 2nd round picks, but the NHL scouts have done pretty well the past few years in my eyes.
Khusnutdinov will be extremely limited as an NHLer until he develops some kind of shot, right now it limits him far too much, everyone knows he is not a threat, so even with speed his options get covered and he isn't slick enough to beat the coverage or drive the net himself. Best case scenario, two years from now he learns how to shoot the puck a bit and teams have to start to respect his speed more, he still struggles with physical battles from the depth lines, and is essentially the second coming of Connor Dewar.

Totally agree. The only thing on my end that slightly sucks is that he is 27, but still I think it’s a decent swing. He had 15 goals and 12 assists in his first 46 NHL games. That’s 27 games per 82 games (and 48 points).
That’s better than any Foligno year and we’re trading for him at the exact age we did Foligno — and Foligno had produced similarly to what Brazeau has.
If you told me we’re trading Lauko/Khus for Foligno … I’d be ecstatic. I think it’s a non-zero chance — the hands and finishing ability around the net is there.

I just really don’t like that we literally never saw Khus in any sort of offensive role.
Brazeau was getting PP time and his most common line this year was Lindholm and Marchand. It’s not very impressive that he’s only got 20 points in 57 games & I’m not optimistic about how he’d perform if he slotted in on a 4th line with Gaunce/Shore/Jones/etc.
Signing Brazeau would make little to no sense to me with guys like Trenin and Foligno locked up for several more years, but it sounds exactly like something Guerin would do.
This team needs a RHS scoring forward that has speed. Brazeau is not that.
I don;t see the comparison between the 21yo (ELC) Jiricek and 27yo (rental) Brazeau.
For me this trade seems closer to the rental Stewie for a 2nd trade with BUF years ago. It might be close in value too, depending on how you value MaratK and Lauko (I have no clue on their value).
Has he ever deserved an elevated role? Maybe we shouldn't forget that Rossi started off last year on the third line next to Foligno and then forced his way into the top 6.
I don't view it like most people. It's two 4th liners and a late pick for a better 4th liner for the rest of this season. The difference in trade value is minimal.

Gaudreau, Hartman, and Foligno were significantly better linemates than Jones, Shore, and Reese Johnson.
If we made this trade to “upgrade” our 4th line, then it’s even worse asset management. We’ll see how it pans out, but this has the potential to end up being one of Guerin’s worst trades when we look back in a few years.

Brazeau has been healthy scratched in 4 of his last 8 gp, on a team that is desperate for talent. I don't have high expectations, and at 27 yo, it's not likely that he has any unrealized potential.
Guerin seems to think that the problem with the team is with his minimum salary 4th liners(Duhaime, Dewar, Lauko, Marat), when it's really about underperforming middle sixers and poor coaching on special teams.
I don't think that this trade is a disaster, but I sure don't see it improving the team. Lauko and Marat were both fast.... this guy is very slow.

Guerin is such absolute trash. He prioritizes everything I hate about hockey. Slow plodding pylons who do nothing well. Why does he fill the roster with these plugs. Khus wasn’t given much offensive opportunity here but at least he could skate. f*** Guerin

I'm guessing they figured khus was gonna bolt to KHL if he had to develop for a decent chunk in the AHL? Lauko seemed fine when healthy but I also know nothing of this other guy. Oh well, at least something happened lol.
If he admits the problem with the middle six, then he admits those contracts were an issue and we wouldn't want that now would we.

I am a Braz fan and I am sad to see him go. If used right, he will be a player for you guys. Big man with hands of silk who parks himself in front of the net and can be used on the PP. Was awesome for us in the playoffs (ups his game). He is a late bloomer and has the potential to get even better as a power forward. I wish him well in Minnesota and hope he works out for you guys.
Lauko has been hurt for half the season and hasn't done squat when he's been healthy. Brazeau has 20 points in 53 games and Lauko and Khusnutdinov have 13 points in 95 games.
We have other cost controlled guys we can call up to not score. Hinostroza has done more than those two guys in the handful of games he's been here and we got him on waivers.
I would love to have him, but when you see what teams are giving up in some of these trades to acquire the bigger names, I just don’t see anyway you get him without putting Rossi in the deal. I’m not trading Marco for anyone unless the person coming back has term. We also don’t have the draft pick capital available to make a splash move. I think we are done unless it is another move to improve the bottom six.
