Maple Leafs Uniform and Jersey Concepts Thread

Logo is too Mickey Mouse, very childlike. My all time favorite Leafs Jersey is the 62-63, obviously the player name is needed, but logo size and everything else is perfect.

This gets my vote.

There is a reason that curvy font was left in the early 2000's.

With all the respect, could you please explain that reason? I'm not sure from the true die-hard Maple Leaf fans or any other Toronto native, but I personally believe that this font looked legit. Matched well with the letters. Besides, it seemed original too. I'm sure there's someone that can agree with me at least. But why the hate on that font only?

Just my opinion, I guess. That font reminds me of the influx singular team names, the Mighty Ducks, coloured trails from pucks on FOX, Don Cherry Rock Em Sock Em videos, etc. Should I go on?

The Leafs are a very traditional team with a very traditional look and that number font is anything but.

Block numbers are clean. And as much as you don't want to believe it, jersey design follows fashion trends...no one is wearing FUBU anymore.

Ok, it's your opinion, and I respect that. But by the way, what's the name of that font, by the way? Just curious.

Fair enough. Thanks Canary. Anyways, do you like the TML logo?

By the TML logo are you talking about the primary logo or this one?

Anyways, yes to the primary logo. I think the older-styled leaf is better suited for alternate and vintage jerseys. Of course I don't like the font but I don't think it's a big deal in this case.

To that logo? No. Looks too out of place, I think. Especially on the current set.

BTW, if you like sports design, you should check out this forum. If the mods don't want me posting another board's address here, feel free to edit the post.

EDIT: the link is not working, PM me if you want it.

Actually, what's ironic about this statement is your inability to recognize the lettering and numbers they used were one and the same with the font of the primary logo:

The font is called "Kabel".

Thanks. Just found it via Google-searching. lol And thanks for sharing your previous post Stephen. It should be very "matchable"

Hey Stephen.

Did you read my entire post or just the first few letters?

Sincerely yours.

I really like our home and away, and it's not to say I don't like the old school Leaf because I do, but seriously let's just get some consistency and roll with a good thing. I'd rather the third go back to the previous model though, it was much better.

When we have our big anniversary we'll probably see an expletive deleted ton of throwback jerseys, which will be awesome, and everyone will be able to buy their wild favourites.

I did. You equated the Leafs use of the Kabel font with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the 90s, which actually demontrates a poor understanding of where that font came from.

The Kabel font has been staring you in the face on Leaf logos since 1970 when they introduced the current logo, and has been used by the Leafs organization in some way since the Great Depression.

So it's a very traditionally Toronto Maple Leafs typeface. I think the block numbers with no bordering looks better, but you don't know your Leafs font history.

Of course I associated that font with the 90s because that is what I know, just like I associate cigarette ads and programs with brown hockey pants on them with bowlers hats and '46 Fords. The fact that a Bauhaus font was used in the 1930 does not hold the same merit as it does today. Even if it is a very traditional Leafs font used in advertising during the Great Depression it does not warrant an overhaul of the team's look in the 1990s. Besides, however many publications feature Kabel does not matter because there are more that don't, and the font is clearly different in its shape now than when used in your linked images.

The primary logo I can live with because in my mind the only thing that matters is the outline if the logo. Whether the font was Kabel, Helvetica, Curlz MT, if its a leaf it is a Maple Leafs logo. Besides, like you said, it was used since the 70s. A change now would be major and there is no problem with the current look of the team.

I can not see the justification using a historical media font as the nameplate and number on the team's primary jerseys, especially when it does not hold any historical merit other than a few advertisements. The logo was changed in the '70s, so I don't understand a. why the jersey wasn't changed then and b. why the need to change it in the '90s, other than the font fit for the time it was used.

Pretty sure they brought in the font because it was after the 65th anniversary of the Gardens and a year or two before the team moved out to the ACC, so there was a bit of nostalgia in the air. Plus that Kabel font was right in your face as you entered Maple Leaf Gardens, so I do see some kind of argument made for some kind of font uniformity.

Also, keep in mind that Kabel was used on player name plates up until 2011 even on those Jason Blake era jerseys, so I don't think using them on the numbers was all that awful.

For the record, I do think the Leafs look better today than they have in years with their cleaner block name plates and numbers, with no bordering, no silver, nothing.

'Jason Blake era' jerseys is the perfect description for those abominations.

Here's my perfect TML jersey. Take the current one, make the shoulder patch the main logo, but widen it a bit. It would look something like this:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/mordechaih/24283781436

A lot of people are saying that the new TML logo will have the words removed from the leaf. In my opinion, the leaf with no words looks too empty without the leaf's "veins".

Do you guys like my concept?

Thanks.

Personally I really like our jerseys the way they are now. Wasn't happy with the ones around 2008-2010ish, didn't like the lack of shoulder patch, also was missing the bottom stripes.

You're not alone. A lot of us were not happy with them.

I wish they'd go back to the 3rd jerseys from I believe the 03-04 season with the Blue shoulders. Roberts Nieuwendyk and whoever else wore them.

Really hoping for new news on this. They said uniform, logo, centennial plans would be announced in the new year.

Any time now lol
