They should have absconded with Mitch Marner too and sold him to the highest KHL bidder. That way at least his f'en cap hit would be off our Leafs books !!!

I'm joking, but yes, I still don't appreciate his greedy contract !!!

Why would he request a trade?

As far as I know his whole family lives in the GTA? He grew up here?

I don't think he was targeted because of who he is, but because he was in a valualble vehicle.

My thinking would be that after another crushing loss and hearing all the crap that comes with it here that maybe he could be getting sick of the fan base and something like this could be the last straw. I'm not saying thats whats gonna happen just that I hope it doesnt.

Like, he wants out? While his entire family still lives here? That doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't if anyone else has also experienced an upswing in unusual activity in parking lots lately. I have. Also I believe there has been far less police presence in my part of the city lately.

Your stuff ain't worth your life.

Strange and troubling, armed car jackings are pretty uncommon in Toronto. They usually steal your car when it’s parked in the driveway.

Hopefully not something that becomes a pattern.
lol maybe if you have lived in toronto all your life but from someone who moved from Ottawa to Toronto 7 years back I am not in the least bit surprised that this happened here. Hell in this city you can't even leave your bike un attended for a few mins infront of your house

Now, there are reports that it was an “armed” car jacking! Mitch and his fiancée could have been knifed/shot and wounded/killed.

What can Leafs ownership do to protect their star players aside from assigning a bodyguard to them when they venture out publicly?

One thing I would do is have a regular beater for daily use. That way you will be more hiding in plain sight and you can even leave the keys in it without no problem. My wife always asks if I locked my car. I always reply with a laugh.

Even better, get a beater with a manual transmission. Yeah in the city it's a pain in the ass, but you've drastically reduced the # of people that could even get the damn thing moving properly nowadays just by having that third pedal.

This message has been brought to you by a Subaru WRX driver.

WTF is going on in Toronto? The suspects all seem to be minors. Is being Gangsta becoming cool in the schools or what?

Marner was probably the target of similar crowd

Dylan Atack, of Hamilton, was outside the Toronto Maple Leafs practice facility in Etobicoke on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, and was extremely grateful that Mitch Marner took time out to chat, sign an autograph and pose for a photo just one day after carjackers stole his Range Rover at gunpoint. Thieves stole Mitch Marner’s Range Rover at gunpoint but they didn’t rob him of his class.

“This should not go unnoticed,” said fan Dylan Atack, who is sharing his positive experience of meeting the Maple Leafs superstar coming out of the team’s Etobicoke practice facility less than 24 hours after falling victim to an armed carjacking.

......................

The Sun has learned his graciousness went further by also showing great bravery and kindness to fans in person as well.

On locker cleanout day Tuesday, no one would have blamed No. 16 for sneaking out a back way or rolling up his window and motoring through. But, instead, he stopped his vehicle and met the fans.

“Mitch Marner drove out and he rolled down his window and he signed my poster despite what happened to him on Monday,” said Atack. “Mitch still took the time and he was so kind enough to stop.”

And yes, it does appear that he was driving a Range Rover. Take that, car thieves.

Dylan was pretty sure it was a loaner but thought it was cool to see the Leafs star back on the horse so quickly.

I teased Dylan that this was the second Atack Mitch had to deal with in less than 24 hours only this one was only armed with a Sharpie pen.

“Haha, you’re right,” said Atack.

You can tell from the picture, Marner does not appear to be nervous while greeting fans. In fact, he seemed to be enjoying it.

“He was very nice,” said Atack. “All Mitch said was he’s had better days.”

But he still made sure it was a great day for Atack and the other supporters who came out to the final team meeting of the season.
