It’ll happen at some point
There's only two parties interested in buying the club. The point of the tweet and the story behind it was to counter the trash papers recent rumors of the sale not happening. If you're going post a "reliable" tweet, it should at least have who the potential owners are in it...
Reports have claimed that United's current owners, the Glazer family, have backed away from a proposed sale of the club as they feel they are not getting the appropriate value, but it is understood lines of communication remain open between everyone involved.
Seems the plan is to eventually (by 2025-26?) to buy out the rest:Don’t see how that does anything but help the Glazers out
Glazer remain main shareholders. Ratcliffe purchase 25%.
Quote from the Sunday Times article:I’m assuming Ratcliffe’s motivation is that buying 25% now gives him a clear inside lane when the Glazers actually do sell the other 75%
"Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to complete a deal for a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United after the withdrawal of his main rival, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, from the bidding war to buy the club.
While the Qatari group stood alone as the only offer for a 100 per cent of United, Ratcliffe’s higher overall valuation has convinced the Glazers to sell to the British billionaire in what The Sunday Times understands will be the first stage of a full takeover.
Ratcliffe and his petrochemicals firm, Ineos, will pay up to £1.3 billion for an initial 25 per cent stake, with the agreement expected to be ratified at a board meeting this week."
