I recall hearing several times that Vancouver wants a center and a defenseman for either petterson or Miller, but with rumors of demko and boeser being on the trade block, I can't visualize how that results in retooling. That looks like full rebuild fire sale to me.

Management's trade record isn't good when it comes to big names. They have tried to trade Miller twice, deadline and off season, he's still here. Boeser twice, he's still here. Garland twice, he's still here. They ended up re-signing two of those and had to trade Horvat.

They might float a bunch of trade names but I doubt they move them all.

If he’s going to the Rangers then it HAS to be for Laf & Schneider.

It’s the only trade that makes sense for us.

We get a responsible 65 point centre to play behind Pettersson and a Defensive 25 point defender.

Schneider is the key though, we need him to pair with Hughes and kick Hronek down to run the 2nd pairing.

We then have the capital in Boeser, picks & prospects to pull off another trade or trades to hopefully solidify this team and get them going for the playoffs.

I think maybe they should think more if they do trade 7yr vet Pettersson as well.
With Miller they could go K'Andre Miller, Chytil and a pick.
That would be hard to declare a winner since the Canucks get a young defenceman and center.

I hope there is real thought put into a re-tooling, rebuild on the fly.
Boeser will get a veteran center Gaudreau) and Jiricek, they may have to add a late pick.
Pettersson to Carolina could get Necas, Roslovic and Morrow with maybe picks exchanged or Hoglander added in.
Demko maybe to Buffalo for ? a pick. His injury past haunts his value but the team could get valuable cap space.

If they can't find a good return, I'd rather they keep the player. So on that front I do give them credit.

The only reason to force a deal is if you know you will lose the player for nothing.

So in the case of Boeser, if they have no interest in re-signing him at the price he's asking and they believe he will not come down, then I have no problem with them trading him at the deadline even if the return isn't amazing.

That being said, they should be able to get a good return as I'd imagine a number of teams will be interested.

I think we're just arguing different things here. I agree that a rebuild at this point won't happen but I disagree that it's impossible.

Linden was an idiot at first but around 2018 he realized that a true rebuild is nedeed and that's why he was ousted by Aqua.

To be fair, if I was Aquilini and my POHO pointed me in one direction for 4 years, convinced me to extend our GM, and then tell me actually change of plans (that are different from said GM) I think I would fire him too.

When you're a top executive in charge of the hockey operations, simply have an idea doesn't count for much.

Keep in mind that as late as the 2017-2018 trade deadline we re-signed Gudbranson instead of trading him for a pick. Regardless of what you thought of him, Gudbranson then with an expiring contract was 100% a tradable asset. Where as Linden then?

Management might be trying to use trade rumors as a motivational tool, that's something Tocchet would approve of.

Fans are being told to not want a rebuild on the fly or re-tooling. Local media keeps saying Vancouver fans are like children demanding instant satisfaction.
Jeez, there were banners being flown behind planes demanding change.

The Canucks have never won a cup and have never done a rebuild or even a deep re-tooling.
The fans just went through 15 years of dismal hockey and still kept showing up.
The owned media keep pointing to Buffalo and Arizona as GOOD examples of a common rebuild.

Ottawa did a torched earth rebuild, how much better did the Canucks do? A fluke season? What about Buffalo and their 3/4 GM's and coaches. A lesson to be learned? Something to be avoided? Is there some need to follow that bad example.

Calgary jettisoned most of their best players and are ahead of the Canucks but a much happier room. Their core was revamped.

All these years of "OH, the fans won't embrace a rebuild" is a owned media creation. No matter how bad the team is obviously to everyone, the owned media will champion,"they have a chance" and "anything can happen in the playoffs" like they think if they say it enough fans won't wonder why it is the same teams seem to be in the playoff mix year after year. That super star players come from the AHL or just happen.

Most of these tanks were for 2 years and in the show within 3 years. These were planned efforts, "to see what's in the system", "Salary dumps", "no sense in further injuries", "sell offs".

Canuck fans have suffered through three "whatevers" and two earned playoff appearances in 12 years, both flukes. And now the not young team with the not great prospects or enough of them know more than trying to fix a broken leg is toothpicks is needed.

For the first time in a decade the team has enough high leveled players to make really big returns and shorten any rebuild and not be a bottom feeder forever or even another 10 years.
This need not be a scorched earth immediately or totally through the draft. Although if not done through the draft the "window" is much shorter because returning players are close to their primes within 3 years if 23 yrs old.
Most of the above named players got through a tank won cups before the age of 23 yrs old

If management gives away Miller for that junk, I will personally run them out of town.

There's no reason to act in desperation here, we can wait until the offseason.

It depends if you think this season can be salvaged. Management isn't going to throw in the towel in January with the team on the edge of the playoffs and a real possibility things could get better after Miller's departure.

Miller had two primary assists, 73% from the dot and shut down McDavid 5v5 on Saturday night.

None of the garbage being floated out there could help us win games more than Miller did two nights ago.

Well obviously the hope is that the noise goes away and the team starts playing more cohesively, particularly if Pettersson can be unlocked. Everyone looks miserable right now, it's not the craziest idea.

Maybe should have kept Lafferty & Mikheyev, even though they sucked in the playoffs, they brought a lot of north-south speed in the regular season which seems to be missing from the current team.

Next season Hughes will have 2 years left on his contract. IF they trade him at the draft while he still has one year left, he might get the #1 pick. That's a pretty decent draft year for top 10 - 13 picks.
There would be more as well of course but that added year at just over 7 mil has bigger value added.
