No closer to a cup than we were 10 years ago. No prospect depth, lack of star talent, zero movement at the deadline, huge question marks, buyouts eating up cap and watched ourselves get fleeced in a big trade once again.

Top 3 power forward in the game, 103 point season and he gets traded for a #4 defenceman(1st round pick) a depth defenceman and a player who inevitably will have to retire soon due to concussions. This is literally a fireable offence

Complete disaster
His NMC made the trade really hard to navigate.

But yeah. The return is really poor and we are no closer to contending for the cup than when the current management took over.

To be fair to Aquilini, he hasn't (yet) threatened to move the team if he doesn't get a new stadium with the help of government funding. That puts up above Flames and Oilers' owner(s) in my book.

Aquilini sucks in a lot of ways both hockey-related and outside hockey but he hasn't held the team hostage. It's a low bar but the family has cleared it.

Agreed and the other bar for me is willingness to spend money and Aquilini has done so. He's been willing to spend over the cap, give signing bonus-laden contracts, buyout players, fire GMs and coaches with years left on their contract, and spend money renovating the dressing room. The only thing Aquilini hasn't done is spend top money for his head coaches but I haven't heard the Canucks losing out on a coach because we got outbid. Heck, we beat out JR and the Penguins for Willie D.

Compare that to Flames' owners who did threaten to move the team and is known for being reluctant to give out signing bonuses (to the point that I think the Flames have lost out on players).

Depends what you mean by "holding hostage", there's evidence he's certainly held hockey ops hostage to his agenda in terms of preventing rebuilds and seeking playoff revenue.

I'd fire Allvin in a heartbeat. The roster decisions have been very questionable for the past calendar year. There were huge flaws with the team out of the gate. The messaging around the JT Miller situation was abysmal and Allvin did more than anyone to fan the flames.

I'd keep the rest of the management team and consider promoting Castonguay to GM.

As for the coach, the team likely needs to keep Tocchet, but he has to be open to bringing in some experienced help. He is shouldering too much of the load and seems to be burning out because of it. Good teams tend to have a stacked coaching staffs with former head coaches and long time assistant coaches.

I do like that this management is not afraid to make changes on the fly, but the execution has been very poor.

Unfortunately, when you own a company, you get to dictate its future direction. That isn't "holding hostage" anyone. Management would have know what they were getting into when the agreed to manage the team.

Very specifically referring to holding the team hostage against the city in that the Aquilini family has never threatened to move the team if demands weren't met.

yeah but if you could relocate a building he probably would have threatened it by now. moving the canucks would be shooting himself in the foot

That's just semantics. You can also tank the value of your electric car company by going into politics if that's your prerogative, I suppose. Some people prefer a more traditional barrier between Church and State.

Well, the Canucks are the only NHL team without a practice facility. Even the cheap ass Flames are building theirs now.

And I know, for a fact, that Aquilini makes the players pay for their own soda in the machines. :sarcasm:

I heard through the blueberry vine that lately there has been a significant increase in work postings in Guatemala for blueberry pickers. Preferential treatment to those who don’t speak English and are illiterate. Wages not entirely guaranteed of course.

What if you are an out of town fan and dont really care where the team is located? :sarcasm:
