Yes, they’ve made their share of mistakes (not matching Holloway, Skinner/Brown, goaltending).

But they deserve their flowers for the important moves they have made:

- Emberson is a great find
- Podz is the exact type of forward this team has been missing forever
- no risk medium reward moves like Kapanen and Klingberg

And most importantly, hiring a head coach and assistant coach combination that was so out of left field at the time but has reaped massive fruits.

Knob and Coffey have been a revelation together.

And while it’s easy to attribute their success to McDrai, let’s remember two things:

- Chiarelli
- McDrai aren’t as dynamic in terms of pure offense anymore

This year’s iteration is an actual team, much moreso than in years past. They win not by blasting you away with a top 3 offense or relying on elite goaltending, and their PP isn’t stealing them games anymore. They win because they finally play like a team.

Users on the main boards will still find way to rip this teams "lack of depth"

I am most impressed with the coaching staff, being basically top 5 in fewest GA since they arrived is incredible

So impressive they've made other teams second guess Jay Woodcroft

Woodcroft is screwed.

He didn’t coach long enough at the NHL level to enter the coaches club where teams will blindly give you second and third chances.

Teams know he was unable to implement a zone defense successfully and he carries that McDrai stigma with him, which is exacerbated by the fact that Knob had even more success than him.

This team is an absolute wagon right now. You're always going to have misses and make mistakes. This group seems competent enough to fix their own mistakes instead of compounding them. They also don't strike me as being stubborn. If something doesn't work, they aren't forcing it.

Bowman has been great so far. I think the OP probably missed his greatest accomplishment as well:

He locked up Leon for his career. Leon has been our MVP this season and him signing here increases the odds of us keeping McDavid. He didn't play hardball like we saw with Swayman in Boston.

I also think he did a great job getting a few more assets out of the blues by adding a 3rd and Fischer. Once again he didn't cause drama with Armstrong. Who knows, maybe we trade with the blues in the future.

Bowman also has a plan with what he's doing with the cap. It doesn't seem like an after thought like we had with Holland. Holland went and got his guys and then tried to figure out the cap afterwards. In a cap world, you don't just acquire a player, you acquire their contract as well.

So we are back liking them again. Interesting how when the team is winning we get this thread. But to start the season we had the opposite thread.

So let recap

July 1st to July 15th-- Genius
August 10 to 30th---Friggen morons
Start of the season to about November 7th--Get the rope--there going to be a hanging
November 8th to current--ship is righted all okay

We should build a roller coaster

I think the coaching staff (Knoblauch and Coffey) in particular are very strong. I think both of them have done some miracles on the defensive side of things for this team. Knoblauch has shown some stubbornness at times this year but that’s pretty typical of coaches. He generally knows what and when to push buttons. Mark Stuart has had his moments with the PK. Gulutzan and the PP have felt stale this year.

I really don’t know how to assess Jackson or Bowman at this point. I think it’s honestly too early or soon to really form much of an opinion. I personally thought hiring Bowman wasn’t worth the risk. I will say from the few interviews I have watched, Bowman comes across much better than Jackson does though.

At this point in time, I give the coaching staff more credit than management for the season’s success. We will see what management does at the deadline.
