Per the FBI, the sophistication comes from potentially having inside information when alarms systems are down (as in Malkin’s case), using wi-fi jammers to overcome alarms/cameras, entering second story windows which generally are not alarmed, and surveilling the residences they rob through means such as acting like delivery drivers or even jogging in the neighborhood to learn the habits of the residents.

What’s really difficult is that they manage to do it in a world full of external cameras. Streets are full of them. Hiding is extremely complicated when you’re able to trace every single thing in detail. Police aren’t fools, and these guys clearly know how to handle this. They just keep going again and again.

That is no easy thing to keep doing this and not getting caught by police.

Just giving thieves the credit where it is due.

It definitely sucks, but if you’re a pro athlete and know this is happening to other athletes, if you’re not shoring up security (which they obviously have the means to do), I don’t have an abundance of sympathy. They guys can replace whatever gets stolen, even rings. Keeping things like that in a safety deposit box should be common sense, especially if you have a safe at home that can just be left open.

I do wonder if the supposed sophistication of the people doing this (if it is one group) is just having people go to work in these houses to find out who has shitty security and simply taking advantage of stupidity.
