Did this poll a little while ago and Makar won pretty easily. Wonder if anything has changed in the eyes of the fans since Fox won the Norris.
Two franchise d men about to get paid. Who would you take on your team?

Hedman should have won the Norris and Makar should have been second. Makar should dominate the Norris for the next decade.

With that line of reasoning Makar should have won the Norris.

It sounds like you may not understand how the NHL awards are determined so I can help you out a little here. The trophy is given out to the player who had the best season, not who the better player is.

The James Norris Memorial Trophy, or simply the Norris Trophy, is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's top "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position"

I'm gonna ask you two questions. One I really shouldn't because you are a Ranger fan but i am going to do it anyway.

With your reasoning would you take Fleury over Vasilevskiy? You know since he won the Vezina.
If Makar had played the full season, do you think Fox would have still won the Norris?

All Ranger fans say Fox. Everyone else will say Makar.

Not true, I am a Ranger fan and I think Makar is a better defense man. Makar is the best overall defense man in the NHL.

That said, Makar is probably the only defense man in the NHL I would take over Fox at the moment.

Had Makar played a full season, he would have won the Norris, but he didn't. Fox deservedly won the Norris trophy for what he did throughout the entirety of the year.

I get a lot of people are bent out of shape because their guy didn't win the Norris, rest assured, he will win the Norris in his career, likely multiple times.

This is a tough vote, but I think Makar will be the best offensive DMan in the league, with at least a decent defensive game. Fox will be more Hedman-esque maybe, elite both ways but not the best at either.

If both live up to that, then I think Makar is more valuable

Still the same. Both are great players, but my team is still taking Fox. Why would we make that trade? It makes no sense. Avalanche fans will take Makar, and will see no reason to want to make that trade. Neutrals will take Makar because he skates better and has better puck handling skills. I don’t see how anything will have changed.

As a Rangers fan, biased vote for Fox, but it's objectively Makar just because of his explosiveness. Fox is not far behind at all though and Makar is the only d-man I'd objectively select over him.

I don't think there is a wrong answer, voted Fox. He played in the toughest division in hockey on a much weaker team and dominated just as much as Makar, if not more. I imagine his performance would've looked even better playing on the Avs against some really bad teams.

If you are to look at the 30% who voted for Fox the majority are Ranger fans not neutral fans. You are one of the few Ranger fans that is voting honestly.

As for the Norris I have no problem Fox winning. His season was better than Hedman’s and he played 11 more games than Maker. In a 56 game season missing 11 games is impactful when you are looking who should win the trophy. I also agree with you that Marker would have won if he played the full season.

Either way the poll isn’t who should have won the Norris it’s who would you take. I would take Maker

I'm a neutral and took Makar because he really tilts the ice in a way that no other Dman in the league does.

Sure Fox won the Norris this year but that's because he played in 9 more games than Makar not because he is a better Dman.

No one was required to impose a minimum games requirement into Norris voting.

I think Makar’s dynamism factors in for neutrals. It does whether it should or shouldn’t. His game looks more exciting. It the same reason why Pettersson and Eichel win these polls over players such as Barkov. There’s no other reason for the guy who won the Norris to have only 30% of the vote. Fox is the more accomplished player right now.
