How many odd man rushes did the Flyers hand to the Oilers today?
How many times did Skinner just lie down flat on his face playing the pass or ... just ... literally stop moving across his crease? And what about his 898 sv % on one of the best teams in the NHL? This team is cooked if they think he's going to flip a switch and steal them games in crucial playoff games.

If you say so man

You guys are so biased in your hate of all things skinner that you think anyone providing commentary on anything that doesn’t paint skinner in the worst light is defending him. I never once said anything in defence of skinner, he played putrid, the whole team did. This was the worst the team has played since before covid. That doesn’t mean it’s all skinners fault.

But you guys don’t want to hear that. You only want to hear hate, you only want to spew hate and you only want to divide and lash out at anything or anyone that isn’t spewing hate and vitriol towards skinner. You guys are a joke and are circle jerking each other. This place is a shell of former self and is an echo chamber of hate towards one player.

This board was unreadable leading up the 4 nations break and during with people only seemingly being able to contribute posts along the lines of “skinner wouldn’t have stopped that” in games that skinner never played in, in a tournament that didn’t involve skinner. You guys are obsessed. Get over it.
I get that it's not fun to read the same thing over and over again, but it's on you for engaging. If you don't want to read it, don't read it and move on. Defending Skinner just gets people even more riled up.

The kid is a backup goalie forced to play a starters role that he is neither ready, nor capable of doing.

Blame the top 5 defensive team in the league all you want, but their entire system is designed to insulate the goaltender. He has some of the worst stats of all starting goalies on a team that is very good defensively (most games).

He's not good enough, full stop. If people stopped making things up to defend him, you'd probably see less complaining...

I’m not absolving Skinner.

Just pointing out that it’s insane to lay the blame on him for this game.

Solid debut by Savoie. But man, having all four of RNH, Arvidsson, Skinner, and him has this team wayyyy too small at wing.

Its tough to sustain pressure shift after shift when half your wingers struggle on the cycle.

Also movment-wise, that was by far the best Klingberg has looks so far.

Think you have to consider moving Arvidsson out at the deadline, I don't care about "what will UFAs think!". They're treating Jeff Skinner like crap and no one brings up how that could also look bad to UFAs.

Savoie looked good.

Scoring one on his own net is bad, obviously. But he scores more than he gets scored against. That's how you win hockey games.

This isn't a hard concept.

Would you rather have a player that gives up 2 goals a game but always scores 3? Or a player that gives up a goal every two games but scores every three? Which player are you more likely to win a championship with?
He definitely has a lot of offensive talent but its getting harder to see a contract renewal of 8 seasons * 10M per as was regularly talked about just 6 months ago.

There’s only so many times the same topic can be rehashed.

Skinner is 33rd overall in SVP, Pickard is 28th. That is awful for a supposed contender. Yet the GM, coach, and reporters close to the team continue to defend the goaltending and are perfectly fine with McDrai having this tandem going into the playoffs this year.

Unfortunately for us I think it’s going to take a devastating 1st round exit with Skinner shitting the bed for this organization to finally prioritize the goaltending.

Bouchard needs to have a message sent, this is just bad coaching and it's not helping him as a player either to have no consequences. He should be taken off PP unit 1 and Klingberg should be given a look there for 3-4 games.

It's not just his fault, but at some point, your starter who is supposed to win you a cup needs to provide run support for your team. The Oilers almost never get a cushion from him, and many times he's a liability, evident by his 898 sv%.

He's been especially bad lately, so him having another performance where he lets in 5 on 20 shots is a red flag. He also looked extremely awkward in net today.

At this point, the guy should have removed doubt that he can lead this team to the cup. But I think he looks worse than ever and his stats bear that out, especially lately.

If the Oilers don't make at least some move to get a 3rd goaltender (by the deadline) then that's on management and not on Skinner. I don't hammer on this guy every game but this "good in the dressing room" stuff has gotten old.

It also isn’t a hard concept to grasp that when he barfs up about a goal against per game, it decreases the chance of the team winning significantly. That’s exactly what he’s been doing lately.

“Oh just ignore that back breaker he coughed up to toss the game because he scored a few points several games ago.”

Talking about winning championships. Comical. How many Stanley cup champs have a top pair d man throwing pucks away like this?

No.

Him barfing up a goal per game doesn't hurt our chances to win if he generates atleast a goal per game.

Statistically at 5 on 5 - the average NHL players is on ice for 2.37 GF/60 and on ice for 2.37 GA/60. If you take the average player personified X5 and play them against the average player personified X5, the game will be 3-2 for one team 33% of the time, 3-2 for the other team 33% of the time, and tied at 2 going to OT the other 33% of the time. A .500 points percentage.

Thing is - he also literally doesn't barf up goals against. Occasionally he makes bad plays that result in goals against, which is obviously not good.

But Bouchard is on the ice for 3.03 GF/60 and 2.17 GA/60. Not only does he score more then the average player, but he gets scored on less. A plus 0.80 goals per game.

That means if we play 5 Bouchard's versus 5 of the average NHL player, 67% of the time we win 3-2, and the other 33% of the of the time the game is tied 3-3. An 0.825 points percentage.

For comparison - Makar is on ice for 2.80 GF/60 and 1.93, a plus 0.93. Hedman is on ice for 3.04 GF/60 and 2.17 GA/60, a plus 0.81. Q.Hughes is 3.23 GF/60 and 2.27 GA/60, a plus 0.96. Werenski is 2.82 GF/60 and 2.04 GA/60, a plus 0.78. Slavin is 2.7 GF/60 and 2.31 GA/60, a plus 0.39. Theodore is 2.61 GF/60 and 1.96 GA/60, a plus 0.65.

Is Bouchard perfect? No. Does he f*** up a lot? Yes. Is there a lot of things that I'd like him to do better? Absolutely.

But he also helps us win more often than he helps us lose.

I'm being biased here but Matthew Savoie was the 2nd best forward going into the 3rd period and he only got 3 minutes of ice time! When the Oilers pulled the goalie, Viktor Arvidsson was the extra on the ice and not him..

Well on the plus side, he should be fresh for tomorrow, lol.

Bouch hasn't been great but Bouch will win you games while Skinner will lose you games. Any talk of getting rid of Bouch is insane talk. I'm not suggesting we get rid of Skinner but he is NOT a starting goalie that will win you a championship.

We were all pretty excited when the Oilers signed Skinner and Arvi to play with Drai at a combined salary cost of $7M per season. Both have since worked their way out of the top 6.

Ironically, Drai is now playing with 2 wingers who have a combined salary of $1.9 M per year.
Yup. Top 6 winger and a good one is our biggest need and the team knows it.

The question is: We will blow it again?
