Post-Game Talk: Maddening Matinee

Think the team just got sick of trying to claw back from Skinner/Bouchard mistakes and just gave up. These two have been brutal this year.

As good as this team is, they have a lot of weak links. I think they need upgrades on G, D and F. Interested to see what Bowman/Jackson do at the deadline. I think they need to make some serious decisions.

The execution was a joke, the play was a joke, the focus was a joke, but worst of all the effort level was so beyond pathetic that I don’t know how to even describe it, and that’s the worst part.

Knoblauch needs to start making profile scratches here if this continues. Completely unacceptable.

Ironically, our best player in the third by some margin was Stuart Skinner.

McDavid is a stubborn f***. I bet he asked to play and wouldnt take no for an answer even if Knob told him to sit.

McDavid can be his own worst enemy. He looked like crap today as well, which is 100% understandable given his last week and a half and the emotional let down from thursdays intensity to an afternoon NHL game in February vs a bottom feeder.

Puck management, terrible decision making, team defending concept only. Oil bought into the City of Brotherly love vibe by gifting an embarrassing amount of high danger gifts. Worst collective own zone play of the season with simple, smart decision making still to arrive from Cabo.

Team defending has been slipping. Arrived full force today with simply an embarrassing game by everyone. A defining big boy road trip begins with a collective thud. No show PP adds to the clowning giving up a 2-0 within a no shot third period. Mucho basic work to be done.

EDIT: 19 giveaways ties their total against the Detroit game. Absolute train wreck puck management

Out of sync with minimal discipline and poor goaltending, hopefully it's just rust coming off a break.

They were already playing poorly defensively, but when the Flyers got the lead, you could see them just abandon any pretense of playing defense while trying to force low percentage plays.

I don’t think it’s a shock that a team coached by knob is a slow starting team.

His pregame speech puts them to sleep

Well, atleast if we make it through the first round we can back on his lifetime 208 saves on 242 shots in the second round.

How can you not win a round with an 0.859 sv%?

Lovely stats for 11 starts, particularly while only averaging 22 shots against.

Not sure a team would pick up Skinner off waivers right now. Team realized they play another 11 am game tomorrow so they completely gave up after Skinner gave the game away in a 3 minute span. Our coach is literally starting the starter against shit teams cause his numbers are so poor against playoff teams and he somehow is just as bad.

I swear if the team gives up on Knob, you f***ing trade everyone. They've had too many coaches and GM's that it would be a failure of the leadership of the team if they can't get themselves going.

We literally looked at Philly and Washington back to back and said the best chance we have at getting the most points is playing Skinner against the dog shit team and he still got lit up like the US hockey teams group chat by Brendan Hagel.

thats one way to look at it.

The other and true way is the Flyers capitalized on Oiler turn overs and did an amazing job of isolating the D and creating odd man situations in front of the net.

This was the worst game the Oilers played in years and is such an outlier that unless they play like again tomorrow you just forget this game and move on.

Rough outing. Oh well. Move on and regroup. Need to start stringing together wins. Otherwise they're going to blow the division lead.

That’s the problem. He too often only ups his game after playing shitty for extended periods and letting in multiple bad goals. By then it’s too little, too late. Clearly he’s not what will work here. I can’t understand them hitching to his wagon. It only has 3 wheels.
