Yes, that's the entire point. If we are top ten we can choose to keep it. If we decide to keep it, they get next year's first round pick UNPROTECTED.

If we are #11 or higher, it automatically goes to SJS this year. We have no say in keeping and giving them just years.
What if we finish 11th and win the lottery and get 1st overall?

I have us at 4-5 more wins the rest of the season (guaranteed ones) which could easily be zero. Losing Jake will deflate this team.

My true purpose of creating this thread is if we did get Celebrini would the Pens brass finally say F off to Sullivan “we now have a chance” or will we continue as a fan base of confusion and hair loss products?
Speaking of this. What does our record need to be to make the playoffs the rest of the year?

16-5?

P. S. I know I'm sick.

Just like with Zucker / Kapanen the pick will be made known to us and then we will be able to do what we want with it.
It doesn't matter where we finish. It only matters what we're awarded after the draft lottery. If we finish in 15th but get the 5th pick, we choose. If we finish 15th but get the 12th pick, it goes to SJS.

When they were playing well they were barely a .500 team. A lot of bad luck, a shit power play, and a few last minute collapses went into that, but they still had a real difficult time winning games, even when they were outplaying their opponents badly.

Unless Michael Bunting is some sort of magic piece that makes everything finally click this season, they’ll have a real difficult time winning 5 more games because their play since last Saturday, has dropped off massively. Like they don’t care if they win anymore.

I will say that if we were to land Celebrini, the rest of the league would have both a collective meltdown and an aneurysm all at once.

All of this is big mess. A 1st should have never been traded by KD considering our circumstances. This draft seems to be loaded with D's in the top 6-7, could easily get a solid forward at 8-9-10. Will be interesting as the rest of the season's schedule is a tough one!

That's revisionist, at best

The team was 1 point out of playoffs last year

We are currently on pace for 86 points and Tampa is on pace for 92.

To get to 92 points we would need to go something like 14-7. So yes, to make the playoffs comfortably something like 16-5.
Insert "So you're telling me there's a chance" gif.

Lol I know this.

Dubas just didn't get er done. what I don't know is if FSG is tying his hands here. If they are, he took the job not getting the needed assurances that he runs the show. He needs to fix the holes in coaching, system, talent. ect. This TDL didn;t come close to doing that. He has to know this was not a playoff roster and move out players who are not part of the rebuild. Bunting was a replacement for Smith. Needed to move Smith but if he is here next year, Dubas is part of the problem.

I don't think Lindstrom goes top 3.

Silayev is too much of a package to not be taken especially by the teams that are picking there in San Jose, Chicago, and Columbus.

Also you realize Lindstrom is currently dealing with major injury lol..
It's a hand injury. He had surgery to fix it. Just like Jake's didn't hurt his value, this one won't hurt Cayden. If he's torn ACL, shoulder surgery, fifth concussion type stuff, maybe.

Silayev is impressive, don't get me wrong, but all of those teams need the defense. We have a solid top 4 for awhile and are in desperate need of high end centers, ESPECIALLY one with a little jam.

If we're at 6-7 and he's there with Celly, Demidov, Lindstrom, and Eisermann off the table, then sure. I think the Top 3 right now of Celly, Demidov, Lindstrom is extremely logical for us. Celly and Dems as 1-2 is a no brainer. After that, sure there can be a discussion but I can't see how Lindstrom doesn't come out on top given just basic scouting reports and organizational needs.
That said, players like him don't come around that often that can combine that size with skill and physicality. If we could add Tkachuck or Wilson right now, would we?

If the rankings are to be trusted, #7-10 this year seems like it would give us a crack at Berkly Catton. Dude is inexplicably not in everyone’s top-3, but he’s got real J. Hughes potential.

Time for Sully to get moving on that.

Bunting needs to mesh with Crosby tonight, and fix the PP at the same time. I mean, that’s why we got him!

Pomonarov (whatever) needs to turn into a top 6 in 3 games in the AHL, and mesh with Malkin right away.

Let’s go! Plan on paper!

lol, Pomo will be playing in Wilkes for at least a couple weeks at minimum and likely the rest of this season…hopefully we get to see him for a few games

I'm in favor of trading Smith, but as long as Sullivan isn't back, I don't think it's a necessity. If they can't get the 3rd they paid for him in the offseason, let him come back and rebuild his value with a new coach in a new system. Maybe he'll be more attractive as a pure rental next deadline.

So if Celebrini’s nickname is Celly, how will fans be able to determine whether there’s a celly because a goal was scored or not…we’ll really have to concentrate on the game lol…I almost don’t want to get this kid unless Sullivan is not here to “fix” his game

I don't think it's a guarantee we pick top 10 next year but a lot of that will depend on Dubas off season and how the core ages.

If sid hits a wall next year we're f***ed.

This team is the exact same team as they are minus Guentzel and Chad Ruhwedel. That is all you need to know.

Rankings are tough this year. If you use EP and click guys in the top 10, they show you where they rank on others lists and honestly, it's all over the place. Usually at this point we start to see some consensus but the only one there is - Celebrini which makes sense. Hell, Bobby Mac has Demidov at like #7.

Catton is an interesting one to me as well. He's right at the #10 mark or so which makes me wonder exactly WHEN we have to tell SJS if we transfer the pick. Like, can we wait to see who is on the board and if we don't like them, THEN transfer or does it have to be done by a certain deadline?
