I don't think he's a puck hog, but a few of those attempts were low percentage chances. I don't think it would have looked good had Sweden scored after the 3rd one.

I mean Marner's OT winner was from further out than his chances. Only difference was his shots didn't go in and Marner's did. If one of those went in he'd be a hero and no one would be here crying.

The idea of 10 minute overtime is fine by me. I don’t doubt he was gassed but I’m pretty sure the deployment would be a bit different in an nhl game where overtime happens frequently and a single loss isn’t as devastating as it is in a short tourney.

10 min OT is a no-brainer. I would say end the games in a tie if they are still not settled. If star players are "gassed" then they can use it as an opportunity to get some other lines involved in OT and make it more of a team effort.

Sorry but this reasoning is terrible. This exactly is the whole POINT of a 10 minute OT. With a 5 minute OT, you can have like 6 star players play the WHOLE THING.

I'll then re-iterate. The point of a 10min OT is that you'd need to use more of the roster and couldn't rely on your two top star player OT lines to play through the whole thing.

Hence, what MacKinnon is saying is not an issue. It's the point.

I think the NHL should leave the OT at 5min. Let international hockey have 10 min OT. Have some separation between league and tournament play.
But I would go the KHL route and not allow teams to take the puck back across the centre line in either scenario No back court crap.

majority of the time players don't score on their chances. Otherwise hockey would be 15-12 scores every game. Mackinnon's chances were dangerous with quality shots on net (for the most part). Why would anyone pulling for the team Mackinnon plays on not want him to keep doing that?

If that's what you want to call the playoffs. In reality, the playoffs generate significant revenue for the league and the NHLPA gets a cut of those revenues, so every player in the league is getting paid, in part, by those "unpaid" games.

Who benefits financially from an extra 5 minutes of meaningless regular season OT? It's unpaid OT for pretty much everyone involved. You won't sell more tickets for a slim chance at 5 extra minutes of regular season hockey. Won't sell more jerseys. Might not add a single penny to the shareable revenue. So what's the point for the people in the business of hockey?

I don't mind him doing that but 3-4 times coming up the same side and firing essentially the same shot at the goalies chest isn't exactly the right thing to do "all the time" - Dynamic player, no doubt, but I questioned a few of those attempts especially when possession went the other way.

I can understand the logic if you're playing with a bunch of bums and you think you have the best chance to score out of everyone, but I don't think it was the correct mentality every time he had the puck.

Ya... I mean the star players could play less throughout the game or less in OT. He's making it seem like he would be required to be out there the entire time which would certainly be a choice.
