i know dick about the actual paper comics, but this is switched in the current DC movie / tv, where Jr. led the suicide squad and Sr. leads the creature commandos. at least for james gunn stuff.

side note- creature commandos was pretty awesome. then again, so was peacemaker and the gunn suicide squad was far better than the one they screwed up before. too much of him turns people off, but gunn works for me.
