Hope in what?

That they can squeak out a game 6 win, just to break our hearts in game 7 again?

No thanks.

Their legacy is cemented in stone. There's no changing the narrative. They are what they are. They aren't coming back here.

Only way legacy will change now if they win the cup this year. Otherwise you're absolutely right.

Gadjovich has as many points as Laughton and has played 8 fewer games, Laughton is one of the best producing bottom 6 players.

You expect them to produce more than a 14 point pace... that is atrocious.

Florida is spending 4 million less on a 4th line, we have a $2+ million dollar player in the pressbox (they do too now), we have a bottom pairing that is making almost $3 million more, and goaltending is significantly less as well.

The Leafs had cap savings, but they chose to use them incorrectly.
Bottom six needs to be better for sure: but you're burying the lead here. Dog like performance from Matthews and Marner.

Quick Hits:

1) I guess they didn't want to make Game 4 their worst performance of the playoffs, yikes.

2) Poor effort all the way around, I don't see a redeeming quality outside of the fact it wasn't an elimination game.

3) Craig Berube got everything wrong last night. From his subs to his lack of in game adjustments. It felt like Keefe in the playoffs and that's not great. Maurice is winning the coaching battle hands down.

4) Max Domi is a train wreck. Another brutal night and stupid penalty, he can't keep it together. Honestly, I'd want to scratch him next game. He's also the kind of guy that could get a couple big goals in the next two games, so I'm happy for him to prove me wrong if he wants.

5) This one will sit well I'm sure, but you know who else sucked last night? The fans. Booing and throwing jerseys on the ice. To paraphrase the great Dennis Bergkamp, do you really like the Leafs, or do you only like the Leafs when they win?

6) Florida is really good. They didn't have to be good last night, and they still were. Plus they got the vast majority of their offence from depth players. They never waiver, they never let up, they are tough.

7) We also ain't dead yet. Fan confidence will not be high after last night, but I hope the team still doesn't give a damn about the noise. A chance to go into Florida and bring this one back home for a Game 7. You'd have taken that in a heart beat at any point before the series started. Let's go.
There's no way Dennis Bergkamp said that.

Shades of Filbert Street.

There's a world where the core 4 played up to their fullest potentials, and they still wouldn't have won the cup given how flawed their bottom 6 is and their D-core's inability to move the puck.

We won't ever have to worry about having that conversation though. It's over for this group.

Three different coaches, three different coaching styles, three different res….um, no. Three identical results.

Can’t blame the coaches any more. The so-called superstars must answer for this now. Hopefully someone in management can see it plainly, at this point.
It IS the players, as this post points out. The management has almost entirely changed. We have all of the evidence we need -- what are they waiting for? Magical transformation of players using pixie dust? THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO IT. Stop this.

Dude you're preaching to the choir here, I've wanted to blow up this entire core and start over since after Montreal. I'm just saying that if you don't hope for your team to prove you wrong and win in the playoffs, what are you watching for? It doesn't mean you expect them to change; I sure don't, but if your team is in the playoffs you want them to win.

Honestly, they're going to win Game 6 and then lose Game 7. That's the very likely outcome.

Well put. You're right.

I actually disagree with your prediction though - I think the most likely outcome is Florida scores early in game 6, and these losers fold like a cheap suit and just throw in the towel with their lack of belief, confidence, and frankly, drive to change their circumstance.

I will still watch game 6, but I don't know what for. Just watch it out of habit haha. MAYBE they will surprise me

Honestly in the long run that is far preferable to losing in Game 7. If you're going to lose than get it over with.

Zero expectations, man.

That's how I get through my sex life!
God I hate when other fans come into leaf communities and write "I come in peace"
If your posting is polite and respectful, and you acknowledge that you're on another team's board, you usually don't need those kind of prefixes.

Honestly, post on another team's board at your own risk. That was my policy when I was a mod here and I still believe in that today. Team boards aren't objective and they aren't meant to be.

I post on the Bruins board on occasion since I live in Boston. I hate the Bruins with a passion but given that I'm a local, I never troll and I'm selective about where I post, I'm welcomed there.

Any meaningful contributions from 34/16 in this series and it's already over. It's 3-2 DESPITE the lack of a #1C and #1 winger.

Nylander and Tavares haven't been fantastic, but they've done more than those other two clowns.

My quick hits:
  1. Laughton is a disappointment. The whole point was to get an effective third line center. We didn't do that, and it is a gaping hole on this team. Can you have a third line center that scores 8 goals? A basic point: the third line takes the pressure off of the Top 2-- or not.
  2. Let's be honest; the defense is making ridiculous mistakes in the last couple of games, and it is not Benoit. It is McCabe and Tanev. Last night, Tanev made a pathetically weak clear up the boards and the puck was in our net 5 seconds later. The game before it was McCabe mysteriously leaving Bennett completely alone.
  3. Matthews and Marner, just because of the history and the lingering stench of defeat, have to go. No Matter what.
  4. Let's look back at game 3. I said on here that that elbow in the head to Stolarz could determine the series and it has. Neuroscientists, not hockey media or former players who should shut up on this issue, noted that when the head turns that much due to an elbow, even if appears to be slow, it could signal a concussion. Bennett -- no penalty, no suspension, the league is stupid, maybe even biased. Woll has been weak in 2 of 3 games.
  5. Domi needs to be shipped out. he is causing trouble.
  6. Bring back Jarnkrok -- changes last night actually made things worse, but play Robertson. Hello? We need third line scoring.
  7. Both Matthews and Marner look like deers in the headlights, as usual. They look confused, uncertain, panicked.
  8. I don't even want them to win. I want them to change radically.

Cannot wait for this pathetic core group to show up in game 6 only to fail miserably, yet again in a game 7. This was one of the most predictable and unsurprising outcomes of all time. I am an eternal optimist, and even I have nothing positive to say.

At one point, I would have lost my shit over losing a guy like Marner for nothing. I just couldn't care less at this point.

I will never be convinced that this franchise is not cursed. As if we needed any other proof, after getting our faces caved in last night, Kasperi Kapinen of all f***ing people gets the OT series cinching GWG for the oilers last night.

I'd say go figure, but once again this is the most predictable outcome of all time.

DO something special or blow this f***ing team up

Coaching isn’t the problem, a tradesman is useless without the proper tools, Chief is realizing he doesn’t have a set of Snap On tools, just shiny junk from Princess Auto……
Coaching has somewhat been a problem. Not solving and adjusting to FLA PK is a coaching issue. Again, just like the depth forwards, not THE major problem, but apart of the problem.

As for the tools, Toronto's reworked the defense very nicely, next up will be the forwards, they need to get heavier and faster.

They still might turn things around, and I hope they do, but I think his biggest issue was his coaching hire.

Coaching?
Sorry, but they've changed literally everything since the Washington series besides Shanahan, Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly. They've accomplished nothing in 9 years. 2 first round wins, and a few embarrassing collapses. 3 different Head Coaches. 3 different General Managers.

Same result. The hardest 34/16 have worked is putting pen to paper on overblown contracts.

You're kidding, right? This is the exact same reaction we see here after every loss. People start a bunch of threads about the future being bleak, and then the Leafs start winning again. Were you not here after game 5 against Ottawa?
....the future is pretty bleak

Yes, I was told that many times by many people here after game 5 against Ottawa, which looked a lot like last night's game. And then what happened in game 6 on the road?
Winning a cup is the goal, not squeaking out wins against an inexperienced wild card teams.

We've dumped our next 3 firsts to ice this team. We lost a top prospect in Minten too.

We're being out worked, out skated, out chanced and out coached. And the worst part? The Western Conference is better.
