Post-Game Talk: m&m Boys Rinse/Repeat Panthers Win Game 6

I completely understand that it's easy to take that position after a game like this. Keep in mind that Florida lost 8-0 and 5-1 to Edmonton in the Cup final, and still won game 7. The result of one game doesn't carry over to the next.
For teams of character... that's totally true.

I heard a rumor that the flu was running through the locker room.

I don't know how else to explain such an embarrassing performance from this group. Even knowing our history with this core, I was not expecting that from this year's team.

Berube actually addressed that and formally denied it. Of course if it comes out now that it was true it'll just look like an excuse

In a one off situation this presents the opportunity for a great comeback story.

But the baggage that comes with this team core makes it impossible to look at it like that.

Really too bad.

Those 93, 94, 99 and 02 teams would have had us all still believing. :(

The results from the last two will.

I can't imagine how anyone is mad at Joseph Woll at this point.... like seriously.. missing the forest through the trees.

Woll blew what could have been a 3-0 series if we had just normal competent goaltending.

That loss unleashed the Jekyll Hyde switch in both the Leafs and Panthers and that was the whole ball game.

I remember, soon after the 2005 lockout ended, the Leafs got blown out against the Sens. It was an early regular season game, meaningless in almost every respect, but it was a home game. The fans were furious, the media was furious, there were even calls for the team to refund the fans for having to watch that horrific effort.

Back then, we were still a franchise with pride, a pride rebuilt after the Ballard with the sweat and blood of Wendel and Dougie, Patty Burns and Felix the Cat; a pride that continued through the Sundin era, with CuJo and Eddie, Tucker and Domi, Roberts and Mogliny.

You are not going to hear the suggestion that ML$E refunds fans after tonight, even though they damn well should. Because, really, what else should have fans buying those tickets expected? Who here is genuinely surprised or shocked or appalled at this performance?

The next two games...? Either win them, win this series, or burn it all down and rebuild from the ashes. No third option.
I remember that game vividly. Eugene Melnyk jumping for joy in the luxury box like he had won the cup on the 6-0 goal.

Sir, this is a Leafs forum.

We have 8 years of evidence as to why the result of one game matters when it is the same core that has failed every year of its existence.

That said, I am all for a comeback epic seven game series win.

The writing was already on the wall when they went up 2-0, usually with any other franchise you'd never think that there is a huge possibly of still losing the series after being up 2-0 and an OT goal away from 3-0. But with the Leafs, you just kind of already knew they'd go on to lose the next 4. Losers top to bottom, but go ahead and run it back with spineless Matthews and Marner again.
I don’t know. I for one was expecting a game seven collapse. I suppose there’s still time to meet that expectation. Though now a game six loss seems more probable admittedly.

Matthews looks hurt. But then again, I feel like we’re saying that every year. It’s possible something is up nerves wise as well. Even if he is injured, it still hampers his value to the team regardless of reasons.

This reads like a shot at certain "leaders" to anyone else?

No.

Tanev was directly responsible for one goal on a dumb play and he's taking responsibility for it.

Hes the least of our problems, but he did have a few f*** ups tonight and you can tell by his playstyle alone that he outs the team first and I'm sure he's pissed about his giveaway that led to a goal against.
