I never trust the 1st period. The game basically starts in the 2nd. That's an over simplification, but it seems to me that it is extremely common for the 1st period to be a feeling out period, and that even contenders can be outshot and outplayed vs bottom feeders in the 1st period, but they will then put the foot on the gas for the rest of the game.

Not that we are a contender, mind you.

Minny used up all their energy in the 1st after playing last night , seen this so many times with teams playing 2 in 2 nights they have the fresher legs to start game but if they dont build a quick lead their legs start burning a bit in 2nd and 3rd , Oilers just need to outskate them in 3rd and wear them out.
