Spot on. As someone who has seen him play multiple times in his OHL draft year, and then again a few times so far this OHL season i'd love to throw in my two cents.

Tyler Bertuzzi is without a doubt one of the biggest spark plugs in the OHL despite only being 16 years old. He plays with an amazing drive to his game and definitely does not let his stature limit him. He loves to throw his weight around and to drop the gloves.

I do believe his offensive skills will come around at the OHL level. In midget his vision and passing skills were top notch, and he has shown flashes of them in my limited OHL viewings of him.

If he can grow to 5'11 or even 5'10" I really think he could be a future NHL fan favorite in a bottom 6 role for a team. He plays with a ton of nasty, loves to get involved physically while trying to take his opponents off their game. It should not be hard for him to grow since he still looks like he is 12 years old.

Well this is a little more reassuring. It's just typically the kind of guy you don't draft in the 2nd round though.

Worst pick in this draft. Detroid could have draft him in 6th or 7th round if they like him.

Bertuzzi

Would you like some crow to eat now, or later. Bertuzzi has a huge upside and the Redwings saw it. Tyler will be the next D' Arcy Tucker. Many that did not know the game thought the samething and he proved them wrong. Tye was nevercsupposed to the Storm, but he did. He gets better at every level and hard work beats talent when talent doesnt want to work. This kids work ethic is second to none. Be prepared to see him in the Red and White sooner than you think. He is a player.

In the playoffs I got to see him play against the Rangers and every time he came in o nthe forecheck he scared me. Not polished offensively, but he seems like a pretty big/heavy guy that has the ability to physically intimidate when he really wants to. If I remember right, I'm pretty sure I was impressed by his puck carrying/protecting abilities that she showed every once in a while. Seemed kind of raw, but had some very desireable traits.

Nothing impressive offensively. Not really a huge physical threat yet.

doubt he'll be drafted.

Always surprises at the draft. This was definitely an off the board pick in the 2nd round but I do like his potential as a pest. He's very good at it. He had concussion issues to begin the year but got better as the year went on. He was a fiesty 5'9 guy who was not afraid to drop the gloves with anyone. Now standing at 6'1, he is continually getting bigger and developing more of an offensive role. But he'll be a bottom 6 guy at the NHL level.

Let's hold off on serving up the crow until he plays an NHL game. Wings went way off board to get him in the 2nd round. He's got a lot of work to do to even be a bottom 6 guy in the NHL.

The Rangers were all over Tye. They were going to take him in third round. He will be the steal of the draft. He gets better every level he moves up. He cracked the Storm's lineup when he wasn't supposed too. And, he did have a slight concussion, but the extended time out the lineup was a neck injury he suffered when he got the concussion.

The Detroit Redwings are a good team because they draft extremely well. For this team to tack Bertuzzi in the second round should speak very loudly to everyone. They see what many people see. He will play and he is that good. If you look at the draft, he is the only player available in the whole crop of available players that plays like "Darcy Tucker" with a little rubard and nastiness. That is why 5 teams expressed interest to the point that they brought him to their cities. This kid is going to surprise a lot of people, and this is why the Rangers are pissed that Detroit got him.

Is that you, Ty?

No, this isn't Tye, I have scouted him since major Bantam and know this kid's skill. He out scored Hunter Garlant (golden boy) while playing 1/2 the ice time and pretty much no power play time. If he had the playing time that Garlant did, he would have easily scored 20- 25 times. In addition, he has fought for his team mates, hit, played the body and got dirty when he had to be. Very few kids in their second year in the league will put themselves on the line like that. This is why he is going to play. He is now 6'1" tall and has gained weight as well.

How do you know this?

Bertuzzi is a kid that could make some noise if given a shot. He started off in the OHL as a super pest, fighting anything that he could get his hands on, despite being all of 5'8 150. He'd lose more times than not, but he'd show up. As his career went on, he got bigger, developed his overall game, and is now a legit threat to be a mean kid out there. I like the pick.

Theres a few different people who have said it isnt that big of a reach where the wings took him. They probably could have waited another round but got the guy they wanted in the first and an extra pick so they figured why risk it.

I'm not sold on it being a great pick but it will be interesting to folliw him now. Hes one of the meaner guys in the OHL and finally has the size now to go along with it. Fighting at 5'8 is a lot different than 6'1 and will take time to put weight on.

I know this because it is my job to know this. I own a small independent scouting and mentoring company.

Well I'm sold, thanks for the information. He may never reach his potential but then again most of the people picked around him won't ever either. Might as well take a risk on something you don't have in the pool instead of another risk-reward skill guy.

Do you think he could be a 25-40 point 3rd liner if everything goes right and you mention how 5 teams brought him to their city were the Wings one of the 5?

The one intangible Bertuzzi has is that he gets better and better every level he has played at. Next year in Guelph, I can see Bertuzzi being a 20- 25 goal scorer and 30+ assists. His passing is his strongest asset and is extremely good at puck possession in the corners.

Really good teams draft for what they need. Detroit is replenishing players they lost from retirement etc. via the draft. Colorado did it last weekend. Most thought Jones was going first but didn't. The point in this is very simple, teams are drafting very specific to what they really need.

Bertuzzi fills a gap in what they lost, like Draper for example. I truly believe he is going to do well and surprise many doubters. Guelph's Northern Ontario scout in SSM (Mancusso) really pushed Guelph to take him two years ago, and it paid off in spades for the Storm. Expect the same in Detroit.

Was posted on the wings board but the Guelph coach said leading up to the draft after his great playoff that the coach got more calls about Tyler than any other player and if he had to bet he would have guessed he got drafted somewhere in the third round.

The wings took him 2 picks before the third started so not as much of a reach as most (including myself and wings fans) thought.

He also got in a fight the first day of the prospect camp for the wings

8 points through 7 games now, looks like he's showing some offence and he's already beat up a couple guys. I don't mind this pick at all
