It took you longer to actually write that post, than actually writing on Google John Tavares and Aleksandr Barkov and find the age difference... Makes me think.
Thought he was talking about Laine and Barkov. But the difference between Tavares and Barkov is almost exactly 5 years. So either way the statement is incorrect.

I think he means in the realm of the Crosby/Kane/Ovi/Malkin, etc... Perry is a very good player but as he ages and gets even slower you can tell he's not nearly as effective

If people think he is in that tier of superstar they are probably wrong. The only thing he has in common with Ovi is the one-timer. Some say he reminds them of Rick Nash but I disagree. Nash doesn't really use his slapper that much (or well, for that matter?). He scores up close and with his wrister.

Maybe in terms of stats he will end up being a Rick Nash, Alex Semin, or Corey Perry type. 30-40 goal scorer, maybe max fifty, but that is already being optimistic.

Truely amazing to think the Jets will be adding both Connor (best player in NCAA, maybe best drafted prospect not in NHL) AND Laine (one of best draft prospects, if not the best) next year. In addition to having Ehlers a year more developed and having Schiefle keep breaking out

That forward core has some incredible pieces. And the D is just as solid

Winnipeg is queitly building a contender. Good vets? yup Good young players with great potential? Laine, Trouba, Ehlers, Schiefle, Connor, Hellybuck

Id watch out for them next year and for years after

As someone who's watched Rick Nash play the last four seasons, I see a lot of similarities, but I also see two major differences. Initially I didn't agree with Laine and Nash comparisons, but I think they actually make a lot of sense.

Their skating, puck handling, passing, puck protection, hands are all very similar. Neither are fast, but they get around the ice pretty well, and they have long strides. They won't skate past many players, but their skating is not a liability, and they can get around players from being stronger and craftier than them. They both get their share of 1 on 1 chances with the goalie without having great speed. Both pass the puck well, but are goal scorers before playmakers, so they won't compile many 40 or 50 assist seasons. Both have incredible puck handling for such big players, puck protection where they can control the puck for long stretches of time because of their size, wingspan and strength and both have very good hands around the net, which leads to a lot of goals.

The two main differences are their shots and defensively. Laine has one of the best shots in the world already. He'll score 10-20 goals per season more than most good offensive players who score around 25 goals per season just because of his perimeter shot. Its why I believe he'll be scoring 40-50 goals in his prime. Nash doesn't really have a good perimeter shot. He scores most of his goals close to the net. The other main difference is defensively. Nash is one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL, and while I think Laine has the potential to be an elite defensive forward, I don't think he's there yet. Nash only became really good defensively in the last few seasons, so its something Laine can improve on as he gets more experience, learns how to position himself, how to play certain players, learns how to make high percentage plays, and has a better work ethic defensively.

Rick Nash with one of the top perimeter shots in the league would be a top 5 player in the league. Thats the player that I believe Laine can be. The Ovechkin comparisons are mostly due to his shot and size, but Laine does a lot of things like Nash, and while its easier to compare players to their biggest skill as a player, I think besides their shots and defense, Nash and Laine are really similar players.

In addition to some top-end talent, the Jets have a lot of depth in young talent. Their best line-up next season might include 9 forwards aged 23 and younger...

Perreault-Little-Wheeler
Laine-Scheifele-Ehlers
Connor-Lowry-Dano
Petan-Copp-Armia

Very pretty goal, congrats on the youngest Finnish player to ever play in the WHC and on the youngest Finnish player to score in the WHC, at 18 years and 17 days.

In two periods Laine has one more goal and one more point than Ovechkin had in his entire draft year WHC tournament.

Lol. I know this doesnt actually (again) mean anything, BUT it's still great to hear that he is on par or outdoing other big stars, no matter what games he is put in so far.

McDavid / Laine points comparasion in this tournament will be interesting. Matthwes plays in bit worser team I think so McJesus would be the best comparasion. Though our team is not as good as Canada. I dont mind 3way comparasion McDavid-Lainec-Matthwes.

I'm little sad he didn't end up playing with McDavid. Now when he played with Barkov, it is oblivious he thinks the game very high level. He maybe could have been that wingman to McDavid what Kurri were to Gretzky.

True. The way he finds space was great again today and you can see, he went into spots where only few centers could flip to puck to him and Barkov had his radar on, smart enough to project him being there. McDavid or McJesus, what ever, would have been magical center to him. But I like the Jets alot... aaaalooot, too. ACtually overall perhaps Jets is the better place to be.

That Barkov Laine pair may became best thing to happen to Finnish national hockey team since... I don't even know...
