Congrats Flames fans! Here's hoping Pulju and Tkachuk make the BOA even more intense

On a side note, if the Nucks would have gone for Tkachuk, would they have picked Nylander?

That is my guess based on what some of the Flames scouts were saying. Great pickup by them. Really fills a need in the Flames top 6.

I just know I'm gonna absolutely hate Tkachuk in a year or 2.

Nice pick up. Also Flames addressed the goaltending for cheap. They might have had the best day at the draft yesterday.

I don't know about that. Edmonton walking away with Puljujarvi is pretty big.

I like the Flames identity. Other than Gaudreau, they don't really have any massive star players. But I really like the mix of players we have going. If we can sign a FA top 6 winger this offseason, I think we will be back in the playoffs sooner than later. We have a goalie now, a really good defence, and I love our mix up front. Our bottom 6 needs more size, that needs to be addressed. But I feel like we have all our building blocks in place.

Not superstars, but I consider Monahan to be amongst the league's best young stars.

2-way game that is beyond his age and 31 goals in his sophomore year. Can play a 200 ft game. That's crazy.

Comes in Sam Bennett. Just need to bulk up a bit more and he'll be a dominant player. Somehow, he might not become an offensive force but I do see a Bergeron type of player in the future. Or Mike Ribeiro type of player, which is very very good.

Hamilton in the back is just adjusting to his new team and will become a very good 2-way defenceman.

And you have your superstar Johnny Gaudreau. Nothing else to say. And then add to that, young Tkachuk, I'm not jealous of the Oilers at all if I were you.

The Edmonton Oilers "seems" good up front, but that only have McDavid, Draisaitl and Jesse. the rest is ordinary and FRAGILE.

I'm a Habs fan and I envy your young forwards. Very good future indeed.

Excited to see him on the Flames. Calgary is the closest thing I have to a #2 team. So much firepower up front and a solid foundation on D.

Flames got the 4th best player in the draft at the 6th spot , they did good Only 3 players in this draft will out produce him in their careers and maybe not all 3 either.

As fortunate as the Oilers are to get Puljujarvi, I think the Flames are just as fortunate to get Tkachuk. You guys killed it with the 6th pick and pretty much ever pick after that.

Well, Benning's choice is really easy. At least it fits the mould of drafting large men.

edit: kill me

Cant believe bozo Benning passed on him. Juolevi is not the type of dman you pass on a prospect like Tkachuk for.

I think he'll be a great winger for Bennett. I do think he should be sent back down though and be put in a position where he will be asked to be the best offensive player. Really interested to see what he can do when asked to be the guy, getting Roslovic should be great for him too.

As for Juolevi, I don't think the Canucks messed up. He has alot of positives, and I think people here were over the top on this supposed 4/5 tier.

Yeah, ONLY McDavid. Top 10 scoring LW Hall, ordinary. Top 10 scoring RW Eberle, ordinary. Just look at the numbers man, Edm has way more talent up front. Put Edm vs. Calgary full forward group into a poll and see who wins.

McDavid>Monohan
Draisaitl>Bennett
Hall<=Gaudreau
Puljujarvi>Tkachuk

After that its not even comparable at all in terms of talent and ceiling.

Great pick by the Flames.

Respect given where it's due. I love this pick by the Flames even though they are our most hated rival, Bennett-Tkachuck will be scary in the Pacific.

McDavid makes Edmonton win. Hall, Eberle, RNH, the rest is absolutely garbage. The proof: you guys didn't win for the past 6 years. Since Hall got drafted, since the "Oil Change"... nothing happened.

Monahan and Gaudreau together managed to bring the weak Flames INTO THE PLAYOFFS WAY BEFORE HALL AND CIE. I'm sorry but those are the facts. Monahan and Gaudreau might not have higher ceiling than your forwards, but they make the whole team better. They give a chance for their team to win every night. What has Hall and RNH done since getting drafted? Putting up numbers in a lost cause? Getting treated because they are fragile. Don't get me wrong. Hall is a hell of player. He gives his all on every shift, but he's fragile and injury prone. I prefer Monahan's complete game.

My point is that the Flames have a great future and even though they don't have more exciting players than Edmonton, their team seemed to get it. Tkachuk's addition will only help them even more. Who cares if Tkachuk is less offensive than Puljujarvi, Conor Sheary and Matt Cullen aren't better players than Thornton and Marleau but they help win the cup. There's no individual play in the playoffs. You play as a team and you win as a team.

Marner - Dvorak - Tkachuk looks a lot like Gaudreau - Monahan/Bennett - Tkachuk.

Seriously, Tkachuk with Gaudreau could be interesting to watch. Kid is gonna a ton of points.

I actually like Gaudreau-Monahan and Bennett-Tkachuk more. Bennett and Tkachuk bring a gritty and skilled game. Deadly 1-2 punch up front with Gaudreau-Monahan on the 1st line.

Oh man, the Battle of Alberta is about to matter again. Can't wait for the best rivalry in the NHL to return. The fans win with the way the draft played out. Future looks good in Alberta.
