I only see about 2 forwards in the rest of that first round that are sure to be better than a 3rd liner, Ennis and Eberle. I don't think you take a 5'9 player at 11th either. You can't just gaurentee a first line player on the 11th pick. They were looking for a power forward and that was the best one out there.

Dont disagree, 7-14 picks disappointing is more common than people think.

But I think you may have hit the nail on the head with that last statement, they may have reached for need. No doubt Beach was pretty highly regarded going into the draft and wasnt considered a reach at the time, but it was also definitely a defense heavy draft going in as well.

But his numbers could be worse, and he is off to a good start this year. While you would hope for more, he missed a lot of last season. Not sure if his opportunity will come in Chicago though, seems to have been passed on the depth chart by Shaw and Saad. Him and Carcillo seem to be pretty redundant as well. Sounds like he still needs to work on his skating, defense and disciprine. Big guys take more time, but he does need to take some steps this season.

I think he will find his niche in the NHL, but he doesnt seem to have the talent to overcome a ******, stupid attitude, if that is still a problem for him.

FWIW...Beach is off to a good start @ Rockford this year...if he does it for the whole season, we'll talk...otherwise...........

What ever happened to Kyle Beach?

This guy seemed like a very good prospect in Chicago, was traded to the Rangers and now I see he is playing in Australia. What happened to him?

Never was that good to me but he got one punched in his draft year and I suspect he played through serious PCS for the rest of the season.

Overrated prospect for a long time due to his draft status relative to his injury history, lack of on-ice discipline, lack of development due to injuries and off-ice behavioral/commitment issues.

He's playing in Austria, not Australia. But yeah, he kind of always sucked.

He developed early and was already in a 20-year-old body at age 16 which made him appear better than he actually was. Once everyone caught up, he was just average. Add the fact that he always had some attitude problems and those factors contributed to him becoming a bust.

He just kinda always really sucked.

He definitely didn't 'always suck'.

One of the best 16 y/o players I've ever seen in the WHL. If you would have told me in 2007 that this player would never play an NHL game, I'd have said you were absolutely nuts.

But he just seemed to flatline after that point. Skating didn't improve, concussions were a problem, didn't seem to have the discipline on or off the ice to succeed. Waste of talent.

Stupid post. 11th overall pick who scored 52 goals in the WHL always sucked.

Was a boom or bust prospect with a **** attitude.

A Dale Tallon special. I hate it when people bump the threads of busts especially if they are your own busts.

"Whatever happened to this guy?"

Well he sucked and was a bust. Chances are if he never made the NHL and is now playing in Europe 7 years after he was drafted then he is a bust. You would think it was obvious but people still bump threads about busts like Aliu and Beach. Yeah I know I sound bitter but Hawks fans had high hopes for him.

Kyle Beach is that risky hybrid enforcer/powerforward with skill prospects. For every Beach you have a Lucic/Probert, but more likely you get a goon like Hugh Jessiman

The high risk and reward of the elusive powerforward and tbh I really wanted Beach on the Bruins at the time....
