I am curious to hear about him from those who watch the WHL regularly. I wonder who is more responsible for the ridiculous points being put up between him and Heponiemi.
They both do a lot. A slight edge to Heponiemi just because he creates a little bit more than Steenbergen does but honestly it’s not that big.

Meh. You saw some of the guys who played with Joe Thornton... right?

I think it goes two ways. Not like a lot of the guys Thornton played with were shit shooters. Cheechoo, Marleau, Heatley, Pavelski are no slouches in scoring ability. Pavelski may be the least of the bunch but even he's a 20 goal guy at worst.

No, I can’t say I have. Do you not think Heponiemi is clearly the more talented one?

He is more talented but he also has significantly less points if he doesn't have a guy with Steenbergen's accuracy to feed to puck to. Barlage might be able to play up but at 16 no way he see's that kind of production.

It's a joint effort like Cheechoo and Thornton. Sure Thornton made some great passes but it's not like he made 56 easy tap in passes. Cheechoo was incredible that year and was always great at scoring goals. He had a knack for getting to the right areas and he had the shot to make it count. He was also a hound for the net and wasn't afraid to take a beating for it. Steenbergen plays in a similar way. He isn't afraid to get to the dirty areas and dig. He has an accurate shot that he can get off quickly which helps with Hippo feeding him the puck. It's a joint effort. Without the finisher Hippo has nowhere near this production the last two seasons. Ditto with Steenbergen and his playmaker. It's pure chemistry.

Then the best thing for both would be,either Arizona trades Steenbergen's rights to Florida,
or Florida trades Heponiemi's rights to Arizona

FOR SAKE OF CHEMISTRY

i dont get why teams arent taking the guys from this team

minulin not at all, others taken late despite heavy totals

You know that is unlikely to happen. Both are capable players but would not likely put up these numbers without each other or similar level players.

it breaks my heart every time i see this kid pile up the points because this was the pick the Oilers gave up in the G Stuart Skinner trade, and i was OK with getting Skinner, but Steenbergen is likely the guy my Oilers would have taken. doesn't mean NHL success necessarily but it's making me wonder just how good this guy might end up being down the road! o_O

Well, it breaks my heart every time I see McDavid pile up the points, because my Coyotes should've gotten him. So maybe we are even now...

Seriously speaking, it's about time Coyotes to get a lucky break in draft. I'm very psyched about this kid!

^^the Oilers already gave you Tobias Rieder in a steal of a trade, what more do you want? ;)

Putting up crazy numbers. Do the Coyotes have a future NHL player in this guy?

I think he had 3:00 something minutes in the 1st and 2nd combined. More in the 3rd after Gadjovich was benched.

How tall is this kid though? 5’10” seems really generous after seeing him next to his teammates.

Agreed, he was getting some rough minutes. I believe the stat was 3 mins of ice time until the goal.

They said just over 3 until he scored the goal.

He is 5’10 though. I just think he’ll need an extra gear to reach a scoring niche in the NHL.

A bump.

He is still young, might not play in the NHL, like ever
but it seems that he has found his home from Turku.

After these games of today, Steenbergen is leading
the Sm-Liiga in play-offs points.

5 points in 4 games. (so far)

Or he might return to NA after this season,
who knows.
