I’m surprised there isn’t more hype around this kid . He is crushing it so far . It’s not like he is getting lucky either . He is averaging like 5 shots a game . His play making is under rated and he’s not just a one truck pony .

Plays his first game tonight.
I feel bad for the kid as he was called up to help the Devils pathetic PP. Seems like a little bit too much pressure for the kid considering Recchi has had a bottom of the league PP for two years now.
It’s not in the players as much as it should be on Recchi.
Anywho , I hope Holtz gets a goal or two or three tonight lol.
It would be massive for his confidence.
Hopefully they play him with players that can get him the puck.

Seems to be just on the cusp. Hope they let him play in the AHL now for a while. I'd love to see him at the WJC too. Bring him up after the Olympic break or something.

If he's continuing to play well at the AHL level, I would expect to see him back up at some point after Jack returns. He had a lot of good opportunities while he was up, he just wasn't able to get any to go. The rest of his game needs work, and he's not a play driver (nor do I think he was expected to be), but he put himself in position to score quite a number of times while he got his cup of coffee and they just didn't go. It happens. If he's not scoring, his value certainly takes a tumble right now, so I get what they were thinking, but I would expect some slightly better results after Hughes returns.

He looked amazing in the Utica game last night, beyond just the goal. He was regularly around the net, getting open and getting shots off that made Luukkonen work to stop. He seemed back in position defensively, though I wasn't keying on him when he was on the ice as much as I was trying to key in on others.

What are his odds of playing in the world juniors? Or do Devils fans expect him to be called back up? He and Eklund would be one of the better duos playing together.

I expect him back up at some point when Hughes is back, but you never know. Maybe they want the contract to slide. I don't put that much emphasis on that, but I get why teams would. He's only got three games left and I'm not sure if that's a big enough sample with Hughes in the lineup to get a feel on where he's at.

On the Taxi squad . Not sure how it effects his games played if he is used in a game. Hopefully doesn’t count toward his entry level starting as he has three games left I believe before it starts the clock ticking.
If it still counts towards that , I can see the Devils just using him for those 3 games then sending him back down . If him being on the taxi squad changes any of that , hopefully they give him as many games as possible

You need to actually play the games for them to count.

But calling up a good prospect to just have him in the taxi squad or be a healthy scratch instead of playing in the AHL is some dumb stuff.

Yup. Not sure why not just keep him playing minutes instead of practising on the taxi squad

With Hischier, Sharangovich, and Zacha all out for tonight chances look good for Holtz to get another game in.

2+1 last night, which brings him to 20 in 17. He’s destroying the AHL at 19 and doing exactly what he should as a top 10 pick in his draft +2. I have concerns over his pace and anticipation without the puck, but these are issues than can be fixed with training and coaching.

So glad he is playing well this year as I had some concerns about how his game would look like playing in NA.
He is exactly what the Devils need on their roster. RH shot that can beat NHL goalies from a distance. He should be a dangerous option on the PP once he is ready. Jack Hughes , Luke Hughes , Holtz , Hamilton and ?? will be a nice 1 PP unit
