This guy's a beaut, becoming more and more a likeable figure for Toronto and seems like a mainstay if he's consistent this year. His confidence is up, time to prove that first year was not a fluke.

I wonder if his nickname blending in nicely in place of Luke's had anything to do with it

Either way, it's a great tradition and it's great to see Lupul embrace it.

Good thing, if not for his name we'd have to go out and get another Luke...

Hope Lupul continues his progression into a top player in this league.

Sometimes he bothers me with his out outspokenness and thinking he knows everything (lockout tweets) but overall he seems to be great in the room, and more of a captain than Dion.

Both Lupul an Phaneuf have been regarded as vocal leaders in the locker room. Morgan Rielly has had great things to say about Phaneuf who has been encouraging, complimentary and has also taken the kid out to dinner on more than one occasion as well offering to pick him up and drop him off at his hotel after practices. That sounds like a pretty decent thing to do as captain.

Sounds like someone who is being a decent human being.

Listen to Dion talk in interviews, lets be serious, he doesnt have the brains to be captain.

I'm not a Dion hater either, I'm just laying the facts out, Lupul is much more capable as a captain than Dion.

I think Phanueff would play better as an "A".

Lupul for captain. Some guys play better with pressure removed.

No, you're not laying any facts out.

Shallow observations and assumptions, but not facts.

We only know of Dion from what we see on the ice, and in front of the cameras. We aren't privy to his locker room personality, or his full leadership capabilities. You cannot definitively say that Lupul is more capable as captain. Only teammates and management can determine that.

I didn't know that the Captain has to be a master of interviews?

The players inside the locker room matter. If they feel he's good...he's good.

Have you seen Crosby interviews? You can talk to him for 30 minutes and not know what the hell you just talked about.

Well based on the rumors in Calgary that he conflicted with Iginla, I think its safe to say that Lupul is a much better teammate, and leader than Dion. Lupul didnt create any problems in Anaheim when he fell down the depth chart. Dion was traded for next to nothing just to get his personality out of the room.

Fine, not facts but, where theres smoke, theres fire.

We must be watching different interviews. Crosby actually has something to say, Dion listens to the question, takes 30 seconds to process it and then cant even give anything but a cliche.

And do you expect the players to come out and say "Dions a **** leader!"

We're all speaking based on opinions and observations. Like I said, I dont hate Dion as a player I just dont think hes the best choice of captain. With that being said, when he came in, he was probably the only logical choice.
