Speculation: Luongo Trade Discussions Thread II - All ‎

What else they can do?! Trade him anyways. He is 35 years old for **** sakes. They've lost Kesler and Hodgson last season, Booth is out = no secondary scoring at all. That's for they needed Kadri and Bozak. Luongo is their only chance to stay afloat. Sedins are 32 now... they desperately need fresh blood.

I meant in terms of next game, would be hard to go back to Schneider

Your jumping the boat here but some creative GMing is required... With the roster as it stands when healthy is a cup contender rather we Leaf fans will admit it or not, having said that they do require a retooling in the off season which Gillis has his work cut out for him having $3,896,667 cap space and 8 players to sign to have a roster of 23 players.

What's stopping them from trading Schneider, Edler, Hamuis, Kesler or even Booth?

Honestly IMO Gillis is getting the blunt of the criticism for being in this situation but really the one who's to blame is there head coach with the stupid moves he's done especially when it comes to Luongo's value dropping. Pat Burns RIP once said: if you want me to play the young guy get rid of the vet who holds that role first... IMO that is the smartest and most appropriate way of dealing with top notch vets like Luongo you DON'T AT ANY CIRCUMSTANCE EMBARRASS THEM especially when they're locked into a long term contract with a NTC.

This marriage was destined to end in a sour note the day they made Luongo captain, talk about stupid and from then on they've continued from 1 stupid decision to the other when it comes to dealing with Luongo.

Vancouver didn't realize that in that market, avoiding the sideshow of Luongo's continued presence has innate value for the team. this could sink their season.

i'm going to laugh if he ends up getting amnestied next summer and they get nothing but cap relief.

Not a Vancouver fan but it is apparent you do not know the new rules. Bobbylou can not be amnesteid .

He's a good player that I won't deny and can be one of the best of his game. However I don't like him for several reasons, one for character and for what i know of him.

I won't be so kind LR, his toughness is overrated, if Vancouver thought they were dealing for Lucic 2.0 they fell short, Kassian has some talent, but as you said he has issues. Cody on the other hand is a character kid, a few years ago pretty much swept the best at OHL awards voted by OHL coaches. Buffalo did very well in this trade.

Please clarify...why/how is Luongo's contract exempt from being amnesty bought out? We are not talking about the "accelerated" provision, but the 2 buy-outs allowed each team by the new CBA.

Don't you get it. Who would amnesty an all-star? :D

I love it when someone comes in blowing hard about someone else not knowing the rules when they themselves are clearly out of touch.

This Vancouver team is starting to remind me of the Lakers, with the Dwight Howard/Pau Gasol cluster****.

Not even close to as stacked

Can't even compare basketball to hockey. They are looking like the Eagles of a few years ago if anything.

Retool can't make their first line any younger. They can still make the playoffs with twins and burrows on the first line, but no chance of a good playoff run. Vancouver will decline like Detroit before, steady but inevitable. Prospect pool is too weak: they sign journeymen (like Detroit) to fill the gaps.

Vancouver is screwed if they don't get a 2nd line center. Kesler won't even begin skating with the team for another 7-10 days.

We cant even afford LU.

With Kessel/Bozak needing to be resigned and Phaneuff,Lupul,JVR and Grabo all making $5 million plus we will soon be up against the $64 million cap.Other players like Gardiner and Gunner will want raises soon as well.I doubt even we have the room for both a number one center and Luongo once the cap drops.Anyone got the math on our situation? I suspect Luongo was a pipedream all along. Under the new cap,he could cripple teams financially.

Gillis may have to trade Schneider to fix this mess.

Not necessary. Van can retain some salary in the deal and give us something young/useful/picks.

Gillis seems pretty adamant.

He wants the likes of Kadri and Gardiner to eat his mess.Im pretty sure if we took Luongo we wouldn't be able to resign all the players we have at a $64 million cap.Kessel may want $8 million and Bozak $3 million for example. Does anyone know our current cap?

Capgeek says we are at $63 million right now.Now way we can resign Kessel, get a number one center and have Luongo. Thus there are no bidders for Luongo. It was a pipedream all along.

i think toronto would find a way to work in luongos contract if that was the only obstacle. he is only like a million $ more then what komisarek is making. also they can trade/ let macarthur and his $3 million walk. they would be able to replace komisarek internally with someone one a cheap contract like kostka or holzer and macarthur can be replaced with frattin on the cheap

I hope Luongo and his contract stay in Vancouver. Those cap circumventing contracts will severely handicap GM's that have to deal with them when the players reach their late 30's. Vancouver deserves Luongo's contract. Gillis knows this and is desperate to unload the problem to another team. Hopefully not Toronto.

There are zero bidders.

Luongo has final say on where he goes.Gillis wants Kadri,Gardiner. Thus Luongo goes nowhere,Gillis is dreaming...next.

$17,259,167 Cap space next year with the option of buying out Komi.

Need to resign Franson, Gunnarson and one of Kostka/Holzer to have 7 NHL D (ignoring Percy,Rielly and Blacker will all be knocking at the door) Call that 5 Mil ? (probably high) Down to 12.25 Mil

Now you need 5 forwards to make 13. Kadri and Komarov are RFA's Call them 3.25 ?

Down to 9 Mill needing 3 . CMac ? (goodbye) Bozak ? Depends on the year . Keep Orr for a 800k .

Down to 8.2 Mil needing 2 forwards.

Flip Luongo for Riemer add 3.5 Mil

Down to 4.7 needing 2 forwards one of which has to play 1C unless Bozak returns cheap or Kadri is ready to step up.

Lup ? Kessel
JVR Grab Kule
Frattin Kadri Komarov
Orr McClem Brown
?spare

Dion Gun
Liles Frans
Komi Gard
Holzer or Koska

Luongo
Scrivens

Doable but tight. If a Getzlaf type can be signed for 6-7 you would have to buy out Komi and keep both Holzer and Kostka and use an entry level/cheap player as your spare forward.

I suspect though we will trade Liles to make room for Rielly. I also don't think Getzlaf will hit the open market. What other Centers are out there ?

Ibviously I could be off on some of the players costs but I don't think I am way off.
