That’s his sports memorabilia shop, been there. Very nice man. Don’t think he was working for the kings but could be wrong

Right but when you hear “Cup Winner Roberto Luongo” it implies he won as a player. Big difference IMO but the argument is semantical so who really cares.

yep, ran into him at the prospects tourney that was in Raleigh a couple years back, he's heavily involved in the goaltending development for Florida. I mean is "special advisor" really all that different from "goaltender development coach" in this context? Would ANYONE have qualms with the later being on the Cup?

I had always heard of he was basically the director of goaltending, meaning oversees coaches, scouting, development etc when it comes to that position. He might know a thing or two about goaltending.

IIRC it was a gift of sorts, since he never won it as a player and the team wanted to give him a thank you for all of those years of high level play.

I think in '12 they also gave Terry Murray a ring even though they fired him mid-season.

Goaltender scouting/coaching/dev had litle to do with their cup win. Bob was literally brought in before Luongo was.

I'm sure this has happened to more players in their post playing career than we even realize or can think of.

I'm sure it's also happened to several head coaches in their post-coaching days, while they were just employed for a team as an executive of some kind.

Imagine not ever winning an award, and someone else wins it and gives you a copy.

Special advisors can have very big roles. Steve Yzerman was a special advisor in Detroit for many years before becoming Tampa’s GM and he was very closely involved in every aspect of the Wings back then.
