Weird stat, I researched it a bit and as far as I could tell Luongo may be the first person to have won their first cup as a manager after already being a member of the HHOF
Cam Neely.
Marcel Dionne.
edit: did he get this as an employee or just as a gift from the team?
I don't think he was an employee
I don’t consider luongo being a cup winner on whatever advisor role he has.
That’s his sports memorabilia shop, been there. Very nice man. Don’t think he was working for the kings but could be wrong

He goes to work every day and is one of the top guys in the front office on the hockey side of things.
Ultimately, I don't think it matters what we think, though. His name's going on there.
Is he really a top guy in the office? He's not a president or a GM, an assistant GM or a head scout.
He's a "special advisor" I don't want to sound like a hater but it seems like his job is just to sit around and smile like PR.
Right but when you hear “Cup Winner Roberto Luongo” it implies he won as a player. Big difference IMO but the argument is semantical so who really cares. From what I understand, he's been very influential on the team's goaltender scouting, coaching and development.
yep, ran into him at the prospects tourney that was in Raleigh a couple years back, he's heavily involved in the goaltending development for Florida. I mean is "special advisor" really all that different from "goaltender development coach" in this context? Would ANYONE have qualms with the later being on the Cup?From what I understand, he's been very influential on the team's goaltender scouting, coaching and development.

Could've been Bondra, He's 500 goal scorer who isn't in the Hall. Started working for the club in 2017. Loved Bonzai.Weird stat, I researched it a bit and as far as I could tell Luongo may be the first person to have won their first cup as a manager after already being a member of the HHOF
I think in '12 they also gave Terry Murray a ring even though they fired him mid-season.

If anyone deserves an honorary Stanley Cup ring it would be Marcel Dionne. In that case kind of lame to give him a ring.
It was Bob Essensa's first as well but he was just a goalie coach.Cam Neely.

Special advisors can have very big roles. Steve Yzerman was a special advisor in Detroit for many years before becoming Tampa’s GM and he was very closely involved in every aspect of the Wings back then.Is he really a top guy in the office? His name will go on there but it's not like he won the thing

Brian Campbell for the Hawks is a role/title similar... yet he's considered a top guy in Kyle Davidsons FOIs he really a top guy in the office? He's not a president or a GM, an assistant GM or a head scout.
