Lundqvist - Two Weak Games, Bounce Back Buddy

Hank can lose 2-1 and he gets blamed around here sometimes.

To be fair if we outplayed the other team and he gave up 1 or 2 soft goals he'll deserve a lot of the blame. As the franchise goalie he SHOULD be getting a disproportional amount of blame, due to his status in the league and position.

He'll get blamed when he earns the criticism.

A goalie can lose a game 2-1 and still not have a good game.

Thank you! I HATE that people seem to inversely blame the goalie. Meaning, that the goalie is the last person that should be blamed. Sure the offense didn't get it done in this instance, but if Lundqvist gives up a goal from center ice does he not deserve a lot of the blame? If Del Zotto turns the puck over and the other team scores to make it 2 on 1, we're reading 5 pages worth of DelZaster posts on the GDT. At least in that case the D-man still has a chance to break it up and the goalie still has a chance to make the save, a goalie screwing up badly ends up in the net. Also, Lundqvist being so great doesn't mean he deserves LESS criticism, it means he deserves more. Because we know what he's capable of. Who do parents criticize more their genius son for slacking off and getting an A- or for their average son getting a B?

Like the Panthers game, Hurricanes game and the Leafs game, I thought he played subpar.

But tons of ppl were blaming him for 'soft goals' when the game was very even or the other team was dominating.

It will happen again for sure.

As someone that gets on him for EVERY soft goal he gives up, I'd say he gave up 1 soft goal out of the 9 he gave up in those 3 games. I'm talking the Leafs' PP goal right before the 3rd period (bad timing too). The other goals in the Leafs game were tough. The Panthers game they were both deflections, but I think he's good enough to stop the second one, but it wasn't soft. The Canes game, I'm not sure how he had a subpar game. 3 odd man rushes executed to perfection. If he faced 20 more shots, but they were all from the outside, but his save % was much higher would you think he played ok?

Yeah, the odd man rushes were well executed, but that's why you have a goalie there, not an empty net. He's gotta stop at least 1, if not 2 of those chances.

Lol, if you believe in forum jinxes you should be spending your time creating 100s of alts and spamming reverse-jinxes or jinxing the other team, not talking about it

That didn't work last year......

Running out of superstitions.

Maybe 10%. I think Bobrovski and Rask both have substantially better chances at it.

No goalie has ever won the Vezina when his team didn't qualify for the playoffs and I think Henrik had the better year vs. Rask.

Personally, I think Bob deserves it. Not sure he'll get it.

Rask is a systematic goalie like Elliot/halak of last year. Starting to wonder how much Thomas benefitted from julien's system.

Please stay on topic :sarcasm:

This is either going to be the best thread ever or like every one of my self improvement projects that's dropped when it all goes wrong.

This is the same silliness as I read on he main board that said "a Vezina goalie stops 1 or 2 of those chances". So if a goalie gives up 3 goals he automatically had a bad game? Because if not, would you have preferred if he gave up 1 or 2 of those goals was from a less dangerous chance? Or are you upset because it was on 21 shots? Who cares? If the Canes had 20 more shots, unscreened from bad angles, would that make the 3 goals given up better?

Every goalie has mediocre games. That game was one of them.

Eh, I'd say the lockout cost him it more than anything. The only 3 teams that hit 30 wins this season were Pitt, Chi and Anaheim and they were all rolling for large portions of the year. No goalie hit 30 wins. Hank is tied for first with 24. Playing half the games was a bigger obstacle than the team not being perfect right out of the gate IMO.

Rioght he has 24 despite the lockout and despite losing a plethora of games where they scored less than 3 goals which is why 30 was very attainable. Guy was a workhorse. Severely underrated for his performance this year. We've gotten complacent with how we view him imo.

He needs to test the market after next season. Team is a disgrace, he doesn't deserve this.

He deserves better. On the right team he'd already be considered a living legend. The offense is once again letting him down. One goal in two games... And a flukey goal at that.

This.

It's better for both sides.

Fire everyone, trade majority of vets and start scorched earth rebuild. 5 yr rebuild plan like the Kings. Grab Ron Hextall to be next GM.

For his own legacy, Hank should do himself a favor and play someplace else like Detroit. This head coach and the team don't deserve him.

I was thinking the same thing.
When is Hank going to get feed up and just call it a day to play for a true contender? He seems more testy this season than I can recall, I think he is starting to get frustrated.

The thing is though he LOVES playing in New York.

I wonder if Lundqvist would, at any point, have a say as to whether Torts goes or not.

He does carry the team.

Didn't Messier have a huge say in what the Rangers did, coaching-wise and whatnot?
