Confirmed with Link: Lundqvist named Vezina Trophy finalist

And to rub salt into his own wound, Holmgren makes a trade this year at the deadline for Steve Mason, Bob's backup in Columbus...you just can't make this stuff up!

I think Holmgren is a decent GM, but when it comes to goalies he really needs to back off before he causes nuclear damage somewhere.

Holmgren should be fired for the moves he's made the last two years. It's not even close in my mind. One of the worst two seasons I''ve seen a GM have outside of NY in recent time.

I would not mind losing out to the Bob, he had a great year while he was on no ones radar starting the season. I don't know if having no pressure factors into this, but he walked the walk and kept up with the best in the world. Not making the playoffs was not on him, he did his part and then some.

But if Henke wins, I'm not gonna be upset, at all ;)

Do you decide your Cy Young winner based on who wins the most games?

It's hard for me to fathom how a Rangers fan could not understand the concept of a great goalie propping up a mediocre team.

Harvey had a great outing last night, retiring 27 of 28 batters, throwing 12Ks and only giving up an infield single. But he didn't get the W, so it wasn't THAT impressive.

Rangers fans can be so simple minded sometimes.

My gut tells me that Hank gets this due to the year in and year out consistency in his play.

I think the prevailing thought that may prevent Bob from getting it is "Is he a one year wonder? Can he maintain this level of play"

Hank has demonstrated this level of play for years, not just one season.

I would not be sad, disappointed or shocked if Bob won it, but I think they go with the more proven guy over what could be a flash in the pan.

IMHO

Sorry, but YES IT WAS

a Pitcher can only do what a Pitcher can do.

Retiring 27 of 28 guys is damn impressive regardless of how it's done.

Not getting the win is 100% out of his control.

You completely missed my sarcasm. Just like Harvey can't control if the Mets bats give him run support, Lundqvist can't control if he gets goal support.

I've been saying last night was the most dominate pitching performance I have ever seen.

Oops

I'm a simple guy. with out the :shakehead I'm almost Sheldon Cooper like in that regards.

We ar so fortunate to have him. We will get 65+/- games with world class goaltending each and every season, and no matter how bad we play, we know that position isnt an issue.

Well deserved this year, even with the slow start.

His consistency is unreal.

I also haven't seen a goalie mean so much to his team as he does in years. Hockey is such a system based sport with it's goalies and so many can look good on good teams and bad in different systems. IMO, Hank is one of the few that I think can put up numbers on any team or system. Hell, we saw him with the garbage teams in mid 2000s still put up great seasons.

It would have been interesting race if this were a full season. Elliot, Anderson, Holtby and Nabokov came on strong at the end.

Good for Henrik. He should take it easy imo, but then again Yakupov didn't get nominated for the Calder so who knows what these people who vote think.

And Marc-Andre Fleury won more games than Lundqvist last year. Ergo, he was more deserving of the Vezina, right?

Win-loss is something that the entire TEAM determines, not just one player. A goaltender has far more control over his GAA and SV% than his record. Great goalie, bad team? Mediocre win total. Average goalie, great team? Good win totals.

That great goaltending propping up a mediocre team still made the playoffs with Henrik in all but 1 season.

Watch Bob fall on his face next year. Not saying he didn't have a great year. He did. But just look at Quick. That irks me, lol.

Agreed, wonder if the GM's will take the 48 game season account. I would think bob wins but dont even bshocked if Hank pulls out his 2nd straight, well deserved enough of it.

Kind of thought Hank would win it on reputation this season, but after seeing some comments it might be Bob because everyone likes a good story.

Because there's always a flash in the pan goalie that goes back to obscurity soon after and makes Lundqvist's consistently good seasons look average.

Miller. Quick. Now Bobrovsky.

The Vezina is a seasonal award. What a goalie has done or will do should have no impact.
