In hindsight, Schenn never had a high ceiling because his puck skills were so limited. I think they fell in love with his personality plus his mental and physical maturity. A teenager already strong enough to handle NHL forwards? A teenager they didn't have to worry about doing something stupid away from the rink? A teenager who genuinely listened to his coaching staff? They were dreaming of a Scott Stevens type of draft pick.
BTW, I think Luke Richardson was a much better player. 20+ years and 0 games in the AHL.
